“I’ll see you sometime next week,” Jennifer’s mother, spoke.
Jennifer was going to be staying in Tulsa with her father for the week. Her parents were divorced and she lived most of the time with her mother. With the summer there, Jenn would go down every other week to see her father. Unfortunately.
“Okay…Love you, Mom,” Jenn replied.
“Love you, Baby. Have fun.”
Jennifer gave a light smile and nodded. She hated leaving her mother and going to her father’s, but today she couldn’t be brought down. Today was her day. Today was the day she was going to be high on life. She was sick of being depressive. Ever since September had come, she had been in the early stages of depression, gradually moving into the full version. Today Jennifer was going to change that. She realized just how good life was…or could be.
She smiled brightly and began walking toward the huge building, her backpack slung over her right shoulder. ‘Today is the end of the beginning,’ she thought and smiled wider.
Meanwhile…
Libby got out of her car and looked up at the enormous building. She smiled widely as the wind blew refreshingly in her face. The car ride had been hell— thank God it wasn't that long. Tulsa wasn't very scenic from where she was coming from. Sure, Tulsa was great and all, but did you know that Tulsa spelled backwards is “A slut”? That’s a town you should be real proud to live in. Hopefully though, everything what was going to happen in the next hour would make up for that and then some. Libby smiled widely and started jogging toward the concert setting. “See you later!” Libby’s mom called. Libby waved, not bothering to turn around. Her parents were slightly conceited and she wasn’t going to let them get to her. Not today.
Libby looked around, looking for her friend. She spotted a short, dirty blonde haired girl leaning against a wall. She was wearing an outfit that hung from her body, jeans and T-shirt at least a size or two to big. ‘Could that be her?’ Libby thought. Nervously, Libby began to approach the girl leaning against the wall. She definitely stood out. No one looked or was dressed like this girl. “Jenn?”
The girl’s icy blue eyes pierced through Libby’s. She looked a bit startled. “Libby?”
A large grin slowly spread across Libby’s face and Jennifer did the same. “Wow! Great to finally meet you!”
Jenn smiled and hugged Libby tightly, as she would any of her friends. “Dude! Tell me about it!”
The two parted and looked each other up and down. “Just as I pictured,” they spoke at the same time. They each giggled some small laughs.
“ESP,” Libby smiled.
“Yea man!” Jenn grinned. She looked around once. “You wanna go inside? I hear the guys are walking around every once in awhile.”
“Sure. C’mon,” Libby smacked Jenn on the back. Jennifer laughed and began to walk to the long lines to get into the place.
Jenn rolled her eyes. “It’s been like this since I got here…which wasn’t long before you,” she smiled.
Libby rolled her eyes with, and at, Jenn. “Ugh. I hate teenyboppers. They scream way to loud.”
Jenn nodded vigorously in agreement. Knowing adolescent screamers surrounded the two; Jenn didn’t say what she was going to say.
The line had moved rather quickly and before long, they were at the gate, waiting patiently as the ticket master ripped the tickets and gave them the stub back. As the two were walking to their seats they remembered they weren’t in the same rows. They sadly said their good-byes and set a meeting place for after the concert.
Libby walked to her seat and sat down. She looked around to check out the people sitting around her. In front of her, three ten-year-olds, ‘I Love Zac’ painted on their faces, already screaming full force. ‘The damned group isn’t even out yet,’ Libby thought. She looked to the right of her. Some bra-less slut. Surprise, surprise. ‘Oh well. Knew I was going to run into one of them sooner or later,’ she thought. She turned her head to the left to see this guy. She closed her eyes and whispered to herself, “Oh dear Lord.” Libby couldn’t bear to look behind her, afraid of the sight she might see. She sat back and listened to the Aerosmith oldies play on the loud speakers. ‘Wonder if Jenn has it any worse…’ she thought, a small smile playing on her lips thinking of the things Jenn might say, or worse yet do, to the ten-year-old sirens in front of her. She stared at them then at the rest of the crowd in front of her. This was gonna be a rowdy concert. ‘Eh, at least I’ll get to see Ikers sweat…’ she thought, beginning to let her mind wander.
Jennifer sat in her uncomfortable metal folding chair. Smiling, Jenn put her feet on the bar under the seat of the chair in front of her for the third consecutive time. The annoying twelve-year-old snot turned around, fuming. “Will you please take your feet off my chair?”
Jenn gave a drawn out sigh, as if thinking. “Huuum…okay.” She removed her feet from the chair, but didn’t plan on keeping them off. She smiled sweetly at the brat in front of her. The kid shot her a death glance and turned around again. After about two or three minutes, as Jenn was just getting ready to put her feet back up on the chair, Taylor’s voice came on over the speakers, asking everyone to quiet down as they prepared to begin the concert. Jenn rolled her eyes and looked up at the stage. Taylor came running out, followed by Isaac, then Zachary. She sighed heavily as the three began pumping the water guns and squirting the crowd with water. Everyone stood up and she couldn’t see anymore. She jumped to her feet just in time to see Zac get behind his drums. She smiled dreamily. ‘I get to meet him in less than an hour…wow,’ she thought.
Libby was much the same as Jennifer. She was staring at Isaac and thanked God when she got hit by one of the streams of water Ike had shot at her. ‘He smiled at me,’ she thought. There was no mistaking the cute grin the guitarist had sent her way. She gave a deep, dreamy sigh and smiled widely. ‘Less than an hour…c’mon Lib. You’ve held out this long. One hour can’t be much longer,’ she tried to convince herself. She smiled as the group got behind, or in Ike’s case, picked up, their instruments and started the intro to a song. They wasted no time getting into this concert. ‘That’s a good thing,’ Libby thought. ‘Sooner it’s over, the sooner I get to meet Ike.’
Around an hour later…
The concert was just coming to an end. The group was awesome. They played a ton of songs and fit in time to get the crowd into the music. Libby smiled, satisfied with the concert and the sight of Ike jammin’ on his guitar like the li'l cutie he is. The sea of people began to move out of the doors, the fans with a backstage pass going down a long hall, the fans without going toward the exit and souvenir shop. Libby looked around to see if she could spot Jenn anywhere, but couldn’t so gave up and just decided on meeting where they said they would. Libby turned her head and looked at the stage to see if she could catch a glimpse of the guys picking up water guns or something, but of course there was no luck there. She shrugged it off, knowing before long she’d be in their presence. She walked to the long hall and sat down on the side waiting for Jenn.
After being tripped over a few hundred times, the blonde, blue eyed shortie came out from the stage area and helped her friend up. “Sorry…hope you weren’t waiting long…” Jenn gave an innocent smile.
Libby smiled back. “Naw. Not to long.” Both teenagers looked down the corridor to see an extremely long line. “Ugh. I knew there would be a negative part to sitting in the front…and there it is.”
Jenn looked back. They were the last ones on the line. She gave a heavy sigh and sat down where Libby had just been. “Oh well. I guess we’ll just wait.” “Nothing else we can do,” Libby said and sat down next to her friend.
So the two sat and talked, much like two old friends that haven’t seen each other in the longest time. In a way, that’s what they were. They sat on the side, getting up every so often to move down the line and get closer to the door in which led to the room Hanson was in.
Jennifer looked at the door nervously. She took a deep breath, and letting it out slowly, tilted her head back and rested it against the wall. “I’m gonna make a complete fool of myself. You know that right?”
Libby shrugged. “You can’t be any worse than the T-B’s.”
“I’ll be an airhead though.”
“Noo…” Libby replied. “You’ll be yourself.”
Jenn couldn’t help but laugh and lifted her head from the wall. “Shut up. You’re just as bad,” she playfully hit her friend.
“Me?” Libby asked, stressing the word.
“Yes you,” Jenn smiled.
Libby smiled and looked at the line. Two more girls to go. They would most likely go in, then Jenn and Libby would. ‘Thank God,’ Libby exasperatedly thought.
Jennifer began to stand up. “Damn it…my foot fell asleep,” she muttered. Libby gave a small yawn and laughed. “We’re in there. Those girls looked like teenies. They’re gonna be gone within minutes.”
Jenn laughed and nodded. “That’s for sure.”
