Have a preference? |
I offer violin and viola lessons. Many students do not
know the difference between the two.
Listen to Discern |
I recommend the parent buy or check out (of the library) CDs of violin and
viola music for the child to listen to. This helps them hear the
difference between the high and the low ranges of the instruments.
Demonstrate |
I demonstrate both instruments so the child can see and
hear the difference. Then the child chooses the one s/he likes.
Sensitive to High Notes? |
I find that a student who would choose viola usually does not
like the high sound of the E string on the violin. S/he would likely
not have success on the violin and may not be able to articulate why. It
is important to identify these children early and give them the chance
to flourish on the viola.
