I used to hate the dj thing till I heard that song. Clean smooth
lyrics. I enjoyed you girls at Sunsplash. Will your group ever
get back together and do just one more song for your fans?
I look forward to that. Joe Higgs was my very good friend.
Marcia's Response: Miss P, I think I know exactly who you
are but let me not speculate here. Thanks for the comment.
Higgs & Twin will seriously discuss doing something new
for the fans we so love.

Never met your dad, but I would love to meet you. Really
like your music. Email me or call anytime, even collect.
at ???-???-???? Peace!
Marcia's Response: Craig, thanks for your comment, but
please do not wait up for my call. I do have a very busy
schedule which consumes the majority of my time. Why

Comment: My first time seeing Higgs & Twins was at Skateland.
Higgs was one of the first female DJs wearing a big ass cargo so
Pinchers was apparently shocked. He went up to Higgs, held her
cargo, scrutinized it, then shouted, "IT REAL!" Higgs said absolutely
nothing to Pinchers, and me and my girls were saying...WHAT THE F***
I personally would've dissed him.
Marcia's Response: Dorraine, you are the second person I've heard
with that beautiful name. Remember Dorraine Samuels from (RJR)
Radio Jamaica? I'm sure you do. Well I do remember that incident,
and the Twin probably do too because they were standing right there.
I didn't know whether to think Pinchers was being rude or playing friendly.
Bottomline is, he never made me feel disrespected in any way so from
my perspective, there really was no need to be negative about his game.
On the other hand, Pinchers at the time was one of the hottest chart
Singers in Jamaica. I thought it was kind of kool that he himself openly
acknowledged that my cargo was real. That was my take on his game.
By the way, what you doing remembering that??? I can't believe you
remember that!!! I tell you, the things that people keep in mind...
you'll never know!!! Anyways, thanks for watching my back!

Marcia Higgs is a wonderful artist. I saw her and father at Reggae
Japan Splash and I just had to go meet her because she was that
incredible and her performance was breathtaking. Marcia is truly
the most easy going dancehall artist I've ever met. Thanks
for
Japanese love. We are honored. Respect to your father Joe Higgs.
He was great artist. Shaji!
Marcia's Response: Hello there Yoko Onichi from all tha way in Japan!
Much love and respect to all the Japanese people. You guys are just
too good to be true. I love everything about Japan and its people. Oh, by
the way, let me share this joke with y'all. On that tour, Chevelle Franklyn
suggested I put some hot curls in my hair, so we went to a variety store
to purchase a curling iron. There we were, trying to get the store clerks
to understand that we needed a curling iron. We made signs, and sounds,
and the whole nine yards, but not one of them had a clue. They tried, and
it was funny to see some of the things they were presenting us, but time
was going, so Chevelle gave me finger waves instead. My hair turned out
great after all, but this is my advice...Before going to places you
don't
know the language, get at least a few general words translated and keep
the list on your person. Or before leaving your hotel, tell your
tour guide(s)
or hotel management what you will need and I am sure they will assist.
This is in hind-sight, but Just imagine what could've happened to us if we
were in worse situation or a bad place? Well anyway,
my hair stylist,
Chevelle, wherever in this world you are, this one's especially for you...
it was that funny...so go ahead girlfriend...
just... LOL...

Comment: I know that all Reggae artists love to feel irie and get high
before they go on stage. Why is that, and what do you get high on?
Marcia's Response: Danielle, first off, let me thank
you for your comment.
I must however say that your commentary is very stereotypical. It is never
kool to generalize. Not all Reggae artists are dreadlocked, the same way
not all of us smoke. Some of us say "NO" to any and all kinds of drugs,
from the "cancer stick" to the "peddler's trick." For the record, this artist,
Marcia Higgs, do not smoke, do not drink and my "high" is my natural
ability to stay focussed and controlled. Keep the faith...One Love!

Comment: Which artist were you most intimidated by when you first
started out? And what would be your advice for a 18 y/o Canadian born
girl of Jamaican Parents who wants to do Jamaican
rap?
Marcia's Response: Personally, the word "intimidate" does not have a
place in my vocabulary at all. I am the kind of woman who is never
intimidated by anyone or anything, not then...not now. I always
believe
in myself, and the fact that I can do all things through Christ who
strengthens me. So, to answer your question... I was never intimidated
by any artist. I did however have highest regards for some of the women
before me, and if you listen to the intro of my debut single "Down In The
Ghetto," you will hear me salute them by saying... "Well big request to
Muma Liza, Sister Nancy, Sister Carol from New York, and Sister Verna...
Now welcome in Sister Higgsy..." I simply wanted to establish that I did
respect their work, but that they should now welcome me into the arena.
As for being a Canadian born Jamaican rapper??? There are even
Japanese born Jamaican rappers (smile). Some of them do not even have
any form of Jamaican connection and trust me, they're doing it, and doing
it damn good too. Most importantly, you must believe in yourself and move
on in with every fiber of your being... show respect and spread the love.
Please don't ever forget that your originality counts. BE YOURSELF!!!
Wish you all the best my child...Zeen? One Love!!!

Comment: QUESTION
Dear Madame Higgs,
We are looking for a new music staff for our distro... Interested?
Also, where can we buy your records? Directly from you? Or from
your Eastern European distributions section? Just let us know!
Love your performance. Best Wishes
Marcia's Response: Sebastian, thank you for connecting all the way
from Poland. I have NEVER been to Poland. How is the weather there
right now? Wonderful I hope. Unfortunately though, I do not think I grasp
what you are asking in the first part of your
question. May you please
clarify that as soon as you possibly can for me? That'd be great...Thank
You.
Regarding the purchasing of my records, I am old school and rare commodity,
but if you look long enough I'm sure you will find something, especially
there
in Europe. King Jammy's Records in Jamaica is the production source for
90%
of my works so that's your best option. Fortunately though, you can purchase
the
"ROOTS COMBINATION" EP with my father and myself which is available right
here online. Thanks for the Love!

Madame Higgs, I purchased your EP and
it is great. You and your father
Joe Higgs, sounds so in-sink. I love it. I
was asking if you would be part of
our Reggae Music Distribution and Publishing
department... in respect to
your great
father, Joe Higgs. Please let us know if interested. Thanks.
Marcia's Response: Sebastian, this is such a very kind jesture. NO ONE
IN REGGAE
has ever offered me anything on the behalf of my father who had been so
instrumental in
both the forming and success of Reggae... and I am so moved by your very
kind offer.
However, I am currently a Travel Agent... in the process of building my business, and
this
is my focal point of interest right now. But I will not totally rule this
out, so therefore, if the
availability arises and your interest is still active, I will most assuredly
be happy be part of
your team. Mere words cannot express just how much I appreciate this...
Thank You!!!

Comment: Marcia, I will gladly go through my Hothouse Flowers collection at
weekend and sort some material out for you to listen to. I hope you don't mind
me all the time mentioning your father, Joe Higgs, but also the band worked
on an album with him that never got released for some reason. The introduction
of "Magic Bracelets" Fiachna most of the time mentioned Joe. What part of the
world are you in at the moment? Do you write your own material? What type of
music do you play? Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks for replying.
Marcia's Response: Hey Jay, great to hear from you... NO, THANK YOU for your
response to my inquiry. I would love to hear "Magic Bracelets." By the way, I
heard through the grapevine that the album Joe worked on with Hothouse Flowers,
entitled "GREEN ON BLACK" is about to be released this summer. Maybe it already
is out... I will check to see if that is a reality. It is Joe's most anticipated works
ever.
Please mention my father as often as like when communicating with me...it is
absolutely NOT a problem. I did speak with Fiachna a couple of times. He's really
kool. I look forward to meeting you all one day soon. Regarding my location, I am
currently in the USA. I specialize in dancehall DJ music (not hard core though).
And YES, I write my own material (for the most part). Thanks again for connecting.
Hail up Fiachna and the rest of the Band. Nuff...Nuff...Respect...

Comment: I just ordered your CD. Heard it play on KPFK radio.
Loved it and had to get a copy. Keep up the good work, Higgs.
Marcia's Comment: I thank you for supporting the HIGGS. I
will try my best always to keep the good tidings. One Love!

Comment: Why did you give up teaching? Could you not just
do them both at the same time? Why?
Marcia's Response: Darla, your question is quite interesting.
Makes me stop and think again, but I keep coming up with the
same answer. I believe I really did give up teaching because
I really wanted to. I value the profession but I did not love it
enough to juggle it with the music. Though short spanned,
I did enjoy my musical career. It took me places
and allowed
me to meet people that I "probably" would not have met
being a teacher. Mind you, teaching is great for those who
"LOVE" to teach, but I "LOVE" music and travel, and that is
one of the reasons why I am a Travel Professional
today.
