1963 Fender Stratocaster

This is a '63 Strat that's been through a lot of changes over the years, so much so that all you could call a '63 Strat on it is the body, neck, bridge and a few other tidbits. I can't take the blame for these changes, they were all done by a previous owner. I bought this guitar in 1987. It was on consignment at a local guitar store. It seems the owner needed money to pay a DUI fine so I got the guitar at a very good price.
The most visible change that a previous owner did was stripping off the original finish and doing a rather bad clear coat refinishing job on it afterwards. They also replaced the tuners with Schallers and, for some bizarre reason, they drilled an extra hole in the headstock.
The electronics were switched out with a Tom Anderson era Schecter pickguard unit from either the late 70's or early 80's. This unit has 3 single coil pickups that are shade hotter than most vintage Fender pickups I've heard. Instead of the typical volume/tone/tone Fender style configuration, there are master volume and tone pots with Tele style knurled metal domed knobs. Lastly, instead of the standard 3 or 5 way pickup selector switch, each pickup can be selected individually, in or out of phase. My favorite selection is the neck and bridge pickups together. I liked this switching setup so much I closely duplicated it in the Carvin Bolt I built.

The sound clip consists of two samples. The first is a little blues pentatonic noodle in D using the bridge and neck pickups combined. The V-Amp 2 setting here is the factory SRV setting. The second is a wacky auto-wah rhythm pattern using the middle/neck pickup combo with the factory 'Quack' setting on the V-Amp.
