The round kick is probably the most characteristically identified “Thai” technique. The powerful kick starts with a pivot of the base foot followed by a turning over of the hip, this allows the shin to travel in a round circular trajectory towards the target. The kicking leg is not chambered as much as other arts, to minimize prediction and improve speedy execution. The shin is the striking surface and it is driven into the target as opposed to snapped at it. Hip torque and leg extension combined with the push or hop of the base leg provide this drive into the target.
