What a friend we have in Jesus
Melody - Joseph M. Scriven, 1855
What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! O
what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.
Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer. Can
we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in
prayer. Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer! In His arms He’ll take and shield
you; you will find a solace there.
Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest
prayer. Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer Rapture, praise and endless worship will be
our sweet portion there.
A Beautiful Life
Melody - and text: William M. Golden, 1918
1. Each day I'll do a golden deed By helping those who are in need; My life on earth is but a
span, And so I'll do the best I can.
Refrain: Life's evening sun is sinking low, A few more days and
I must go To meet the deeds that I have done, Where there will be no setting sun.
2. To be a child of God each
day, My light must shine along the way; I'll sing His praise while ages roll And strive to help some troubled soul. Refrain:
|
| 3. The only life that will endure, Is one that's kind and good and pure; And so for God I'll take
my stand, Each day I'll lend a helping hand. Refrain:
4. I'll help someone in time of need, And journey
on with rapid speed; I'll help the sick and poor and weak, And words of kindness to them speak. Refrain:
5.
While going down life's weary road I'll try to lift some trav'ler's load; I'll try to turn the night to day, Make
flowers bloom along the way. Refrain:

Et Barn Er Født I Betlehem
Melody - 1543
Nicolai F.L. Grundtvig, 1783-1872
Et barn er født i Betlehem, i Betlehem, Ti gleder sig Jerusalem. Alleluja, alleluja!
En
fattig jomfru sat i løn, Hun sat i løn, Og fødte himlens kongesøn. Alleluja, alleluja!
Lov, tak og pris i
evighet, I evighet, Den hellige trefoldighet. Alleluja, alleluja!
|
| A Child is born in Bethlehem, in Bethlehem. And gladness fills Jerusalem, Allelujah, allelujah!
A
lowly manger shelters Him, This Holy Boy. God's angels sing above with joy, Allelujah, allelujah!
We now give
thanks eternally, Eternaly. to God, the Holy Trinity, Allelujah, allelujah!

In Heaven's Eyes
Melody -
A fervent prayer rose up to heaven, A fragile soul was losing ground Sorting through this earthly
babble, Heaven heard the sound. It was a life of no distinction, No successes, only tries. Yet, gazing down on
this unlovely one, There was love in Heaven's Eyes.
|
| The orphaned child, the wayward father, The homeless traveler in the rain When life goes by and
no one bothers, Heaven feels the pain. Looking down, God sees each heartache, Knows each sorrow, hears each cry, And
looking up, we'll see compassion's Fire ablaze in Heaven's Eyes. |
Refrain: In Heaven's Eyes, there are no losers, In Heaven's Eyes, no hopeless cause. Only
people like you, with feelings like me And we're amazed at the grace we can find In Heaven's Eyes. |

art, while endless ages run, With Father and with Spirit One. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! |
A Lamb Goes Uncomplaining Forth
Melody - "Ein Lämmlein geht und trägt die Schuld" Wolfgang Dachstein 1525
Paul Gerhardt
A Lamb goes uncomplaining forth, The guilt of all men bearing; And laden with the sins of earth, None
else the burden sharing! Goes patient on, grow weak and faint, To slaughter led without complaint, That spotless
life to offer; Bears shame and stripes, and wounds and death, Anguish and mockery, and saith, "Willing all this I
suffer."
2. This Lamb is Christ, the soul's great Friend, The Lamb of God, our Savior; Him God the Father chose to send To
gain for us His favor. "Go forth, My Son," the Father saith, "And free men from the fear of death, From guilt and
condemnation. The wrath and stripes are hard to bear, But by Thy Passion men shall share The fruit of Thy salvation."
3. "Yea, Father, yea, most willingly I'll bear what Thou commandest; My will conforms to Thy decree, I do what
Thou demandest." O wondrous Love, what hast Thou done! The Father offers up His Son! The Son, content, descendeth! O
Love, how strong Thou art to save! Thou beddest Him within the grave Whose word the mountains rendeth.
| 4. From morn till eve my theme shall be Thy mercy's wondrous measure; To sacrifice myself for
Thee Shall be my aim and pleasure. My stream of life shall ever be A current flowing ceaselessly, Thy constant
praise outpouring. I'll treasure in my memory, O Lord, all Thou hast done for me, Thy gracious love adoring.
5. Of death I am no more afraid, New life from Thee is flowing; Thy cross affords me cooling shade When noonday's
sun is glowing. When by my grief I am opprest, On Thee my weary soul shall rest Serenely as on pillows. Thou art
my Anchor when by woe My bark is driven to and fro On trouble's surging billows.
6. And when Thy glory I shall see And taste Thy kingdom's pleasure, Thy blood my royal robe shall be, My joy beyond
all measure. When I appear before Thy throne, Thy righteousness shall be my crown,- With these I need not hide me. And
there, in garments richly wrought As Thine own bride, I shall be brought To stand in joy beside Thee. |
A Little Child May Know
Melody -
Jane E. Leeson, 1807-1882
1. A little child may know Our Father's name of Love; 'Tis written on the earth below, And
on the sky above.
2. Around me when I look, His handiwork I see; This world is like a picture-book To teach
his love to me.
|
| 3. The thousand little flowers Within our garden found, The rainbow and the soft spring showers, And
every pleasant sound;
4. The birds that sweetly sing, The moon that shines by night, With every tiny living thing Rejoicing
in the light;
|
5. And every star above, Set in the deep blue sky, All tell me that our God is love, And tell me he
is nigh.

A Little Tiny Bird

1. A little tiny bird With sweet and cheerful song, God watches, thinks and cares for All the
day long.
|
| 2. A little helpless babe That knows not right from wrong, God wakes a mother's love for All
the day long.
|
3. A little trustful child Singing to God his song, God loves to hear the music All the day long.

A Mighty Fortress is Our God
Melody - "Ein' feste Burg ist unser Gott" - Phonetic German Version
Martin Luther, 1529
A mighty fortress is our God, A sword and shield victorious; He breaks the cruel oppressor's rod And
wins salvation glorious. The old evil foe, Sworn to work us woe, With dread craft and might He arms himself to
fight. On Earth he has no equal.
2. No strength of ours can match his might! We would be lost, rejected. But now a champion comes to fight, Whom
God himself elected. Ask who this may be: Lord of Hosts is he! Jesus Christ our Lord, God's only son, adored. He
holds the field victorious.
3. Though hordes of devils fill the land All threat'ning to devour us, We tremble not, unmoved we stand; They
cannot overpow'r us. This world's prince may rage, In fierce war engage. He is doomed to fail; God's judgement
must prevail! One little word subdues him.
4. God's word forever shall abide, No thanks to foes, who fear it; For God himself fights by our side With weapons
of the Spirit. If they take our house, Goods, fame, child or spouse, Wrench our life away, They cannot win the
day. The Kingdom's ours forever!
tr. Frederic Henry Hedge, 1853
A mighty fortress is our God, A bulwark never failing; Our helper He amid the flood Of mortal ills prevailing; For
still our ancient foe Doth seek to work us woe; His craft and pow'r are great, And armed with cruel hate, On earth
is not His equal.
2. Did we in our own strength confide, Our striving would be losing; Were not the right Man on our side, The Man
of God's own choosing; Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He; Lord Sabboth, His name, From age to age
the same, And He must win the battle.
3. And tho' this world, with devils filled, Should threaten to undo us, We will not fear, for God hath willed His
truth to triumph thro' us; The prince of Darkness grim, We tremble not for him; His rage we can endure, For lo,
his doom is sure, One little word shall fell him.
4. That word above all earthly pow'rs, No thanks to them, abideth; The Spirit and the gifts are ours Thro' Him
who with us sideth: Let goods and kindred go, This mortal life also; The body they may kill: God's truth abideth
still, His kingdom is forever.
tr. Catherine Winkworth, 1829-1878
A mighty Fortress is our God, A trusty Shield and Weapon; He helps us free from every need That hath us now o'ertaken. The
old evil Foe Now means deadly woe; Deep guile and great might Are his dread arms in fight; On Earth is not his
equal.
2. With might of ours can naught be done, Soon were our loss effected; But for us fights the Valiant One, Whom
God Himself elected. Ask ye, Who is this? Jesus Christ it is. Of Sabaoth Lord, And there's none other God; He
holds the field forever.
3. Though devils all the world should fill, All eager to devour us. We tremble not, we fear no ill, They shall
not overpower us. This world's prince may still Scowl fierce as he will, He can harm us none, He's judged; the
deed is done; One little word can fell him.
4. The Word they still shall let remain Nor any thanks have for it; He's by our side upon the plain With His good
gifts and Spirit. And take they our life, Goods, fame, child and wife, Let these all be gone, They yet have nothing
won; The Kingdom our remaineth. |
A Pilgrim and a Stranger
Melody -
Paul Gerhardt
A Pilgrim and a Stranger, I journey here below; Far distant is my country, The home to which
I go. Here I must toil and travail, Oft weary and opprest; But there my God shall lead me To everlasting rest.
2. I've met with storms and danger E'en from my early years, With enemies and conflicts, With fightings and with
fears. There's nothing here that tempts me To wish a longer stay, So I must hasten forward, No halting or delay.
3. It is a well-worn pathway; A host has gone before, The holy saints and prophets, The patriarchs of yore. They
trod the toilsome journey In patience and in faith; And them I fain would follow, Like them in life and death.
| 4. Who would share Abraham's blessing Must Abraham's path pursue, A stranger and a pilgrim, Like
him, must journey through. The foes must be encountered, The dangers must be passed; A faithful soldier only Receives
the crown at last.
5. So I must hasten forward,- Thank God, the end will come! This land of passing shadows Is not my destined home. The
everlasting city, Jerusalem above, This evermore abideth, The home of light and love.
6. There still my thoughts are dwelling, 'Tis there I long to be; Come, Lord, and call Thy servant To blessedness
with Thee. Come, bid my toils be ended, Let all my wanderings cease; Call from the wayside lodging To Thy sweet
home of peace.
|
7. There I shall dwell forever, No more a parting guest, With all thy blood-bought children In
everlasting rest, The pilgrim toils forgotten, The pilgrim conflicts o'er, All earthly griefs behind me, Eternal
joys before. |
