Story:

Kagome is your average school-girl who happens to live on an ancient family shrine with her mother, grandfather, little brother (Sota), and her beloved fat cat, Buyo. Kagome didn't think much of legends and fairytales until her 15th birthday when she is pulled into The Bone Eaters Well by the demon (yōkai) Mistress Centipede. (F.Y.I.: We use the word "demon" in English but the original Japanese translation is "spirit." So, the western view of the word "demon" does not necessarily run true for this anime.) When Kagome climbs out of the dry well, after wounding the demon with a surprising power-force from her own hand, she soon realizes she is no longer in Tokyo. She is in fact in Japan's Warring States Era, 500 years before the present day. Kagome notices Inuyasha, half human and half dog-demon (hanyō), pinned to a tree by an arrow. He is asleep under a spell by the priestess Kikyo who bound him to the tree 50 years ago. No one up until this point has ever managed to free Inuyasha (not that they would want to). Kagome is taken to a nearby village to see Kaede, an old priestess, and Mistress Centipede attacks yet again. Seeing that the demon is specifically after Kagome, she runs into the woods to the dry well in hopes of keeping the demon away from the village. She calls out for help and Inuyasha awakens while still being pinned to the tree. Inuyasha mistakens Kagome for Kikyo momentarily and asks Kagome to let him go. Kagome is attacked again by Mistress Centipede and is bitten in the side. A round jewel falls out from inside her body and Mistress Centipede devours it. The demon's power increases dramatically and she begins to attack the villagers who followed Kagome to the forest. Inuyasha claims he can kill her if only Kagome could free him. Against Kaede's pleas, Kagome pulls the arrow out of Inuyasha, freeing him. He destroys Mistress Centipede and then threatens to kill Kagome if she won't give him the jewel, which he wants to become a full demon. Kaede collars Inuyasha with a beaded necklace and gives Kagome the power to restrain him by saying the word "sit." The jewel is given to Kagome to care for it and is later swallowed by a crow demon. When Kagome shoots it and kills it she accidentally shatters the jewel. Now the Shikon no Tama is shattered and any small fragment can give a demon immense strength. Kagome and Inuyasha must put aside their differences and use their combined abilities to search for the shards before they fall into the wrong hands.

Inuyasha

Age: 17

Sex: Male

Status: Half dog-demon, half human

Weapon: Tetsusaiga (sword forged from his father’s fang), claws, fangs, strength.

Special ability: Acute senses of smell and hearing, recovers from wounds faster than the average person, is very fast and can jump really, really high.

Kryptonite: He loses his demon powers during the new moon of every month and becomes human for a night.

Love: Kikyo and Kagome

Kagome

Age: 15

Sex: Female

Status: Present day school girl, supposedly Kikyo’s reincarnation.

Weapon: Bow and arrows

Special ability: Sacred arrow which only hits evil, shikon jewel detection and purification, barriers.

Kryptonite: Inuyasha with Kikyo and math tests.

Sesshomaru

Age: At least 50, but more likely to be hundreds of years old.

Sex: Male…we think. (Oh, come on. I like Fluffy too, but I was feeling extremely sarcastic when I wrote this.)

Status: Dog-demon, Lord of the Western Lands, Inuyasha’s older half-brother.

Weapon: Poison claws, Tenseiga  (sword forged from father’s fang), whip-like energy, Tōkijin (sword forged from the fang of Goshinki)

Special ability: Very fast and strong, a great fighter, acute hearing and smell, can remain very calm in extreme situations. He also can fight almost to the death and never tangle his hair.

Kryptonite: Only has one arm (brotherly spats go a little too far in this show) and views the mercy that he does have within himself for humans as a weakness.

Love: Rin (more in a fatherly way).

Jaken

Age: No clue. At least 50 years old.

Sex: Male

Status: Sesshomaru’s little henchman. I think he’s a mutated toad. No, really he is a Kappa, or a Japanese imp.

Weapon: The Staff of Sculls.

Special ability: To be annoying. Actually he can be a fairly decent fighter.

Kryptonite: Sesshomaru’s claws and Kagome’s foot.

Love: Haha, Fluffy?

Kikyo

Age: 17

Sex: Female

Status: Priestess/demon

Weapon: Bow and arrows.

Special ability: Same as Kagome, but more powerful and arrow can hit more than evil.

Kryptonite: She must collect souls to sustain her own.

Love: Inuyasha

Naraku

Age: 50+20ish (incase you wanted to include when he was Onigumo)

Sex: Male, but he is a combination of many demons and so can reproduce and change into a woman.

Status: Most powerful demon seen yet. But he is only half-demon.

Weapon: Anything really, but he likes to use his demon puppets a lot.

Special ability: Can absorb more demons to make himself powerful.

Kryptonite: He is still part human, and unnaturally too. He was the human Onigumo and allowed demons to eat his flesh to infuse with them to gain enough power to have the Shikon Jewel and Kikyo. His human heart is his weakness.

Love: Kikyo and nothing at the same time.

Sango

Age: 16

Sex: Female

Status: Demon exterminator.

Weapon: Giant boomerang. A pet demon cat,Kirara (pronounced key-la-la in English Anime), who can grow from a tiny wittle kitten to an awesome flying saber-toothed cat. 2 tails.

Special ability: She is incredibly strong for a human, a good fighter, and can sense a demon.

Kryptonite: Her younger brother being controlled by Naraku.

Love: Miroku

Kouga

Age: 19

Sex: Male

Status: Leader of the wolf-demon pack, as he is one himself.

Weapon: Strength, twister.

Special ability: Acute sense of smell and hearing.

Kryptonite: He can get a little too cocky.

Love: Kagome

Rin

Age: 5-8

Sex: Female

Status: Orphan. She was adopted by Sesshomaru.

Weapon: Big eyes.

Special ability: She has been the first to penetrate Sesshomaru’s heart. I’d say that is pretty special.

Kryptonite: She is a little girl.

Love: Sesshomaru, as a father figure.
