A valuable supplement to traditional etudes, these fourteen short studies
offer students of upper intermediate level and above opportunities to become
acquainted with idioms such as pentatonic, octatonic, and whole tone scales;
mixed meter, irregular rhythms; quartal, secundal, and polychordal harmonies;
twelve-tone music; and other techniques not encountered in pre-20th century music.
