Germany is by far my favorite destination in all of Europe, I
have have seen nearly all of the country during three visits there. I have visited Berlin, Heidelberg, Frankfurt,
Nuremburg, Munich, Hamburg and many smaller towns
thought this beautiful country.
Berlin and Nuremburg are full
of World War 2 history, (those that know me know that I love history, especially this time period). From the Brandenburg
Gate & the Reichstag in Berlin to Nuremburg's castle and old
town, Germany proves it is rich in history. Nuremburg,
for those that don't remember their WW2 history is the site of the famous war crimes trials after the wars ending in 1945.
To the south, in the state of Bavaria
lies the city of Munich. It is here in a beer hall that
Adolph Hitler began his reign of terror over Germany
and plunged mankind into World War II. Not far from Munich lies the
small towns of Obersalzburg and Berchgarten, It is in the mountains above Obersalzburg where Hitler's mountain top
retreat of Eagles Nest can be found. It was here at Eagles Nest that Hitler gave the British Prime Minister,
Neville Chamberlain his promise that he would not start a war.
"Peace in our time"
Included in the photos on this page are some taken at the concentration
camp of Dachu. I have done so because I found this day trip from Munich
to be quite moving experience, I have not placed them here out of any lack of respect to anyone. My hope is that
in your viewing of these pictures may in some way may help you share in this experience.
Finally, I recommend that anyone traveling to Tampa/St Petersburg take
time to visit the Florida Holocaust Museum.
Also, while in Washington D.C be sure to visit the National Holocaust
Museum there. Both are exceptional in their own way. Lastly, if
you have the opportunity to travel to Amsterdam Holland, make the trip to visit the Anne Frank Haus.
It is worth the long wait to get a peak inside this tragic site.
Here are some links if you would like to learn more about the Holocaust. I have been lucky enough to have visited
all three of these museums and I highly recommend them
