Here you will see a selection of images from my trip to Hawaii in August 2003.   I spent a week there which is not near enough time to truly appreciate all that the islands have to offer.  In my brief time there, just over a week, I spent most of it on the island of Oahu, home to Honolulu and then a few days on the Big Island of Hawaii.

This was really a wonderful trip from the rich history of Ohau and Pearl Harbor to the Volcano National Park on the Big Island.   My favorite memory has to be the hike across the Kiluea Iki crater and the rather ruff hike to Pu'u Loa to witness a live moving lava flow.  Armed with flashlight, we hiked 30+ minutes on the trail near total darkness to reach the flow.  Standing within a meter of the lava, feeling its intense heat as it moved slowly towards the sea was breathtaking.   At one point, I was literally walking across rocks where, underneath you could see the glow of the lava flow.   That was somewhat of a rush, although not the safest place to be I'm sure.  With all it's beauty, no visit to Hawaii would be complete without a visit to Hawaii National Park.
