memorial plaque & bravery awards

...so what's the use of pressing palms, if you won't keep such love from harm, it's a cruel world, you've so much to prove....
You have been loved - George Michael

Early December 2004 a Memorial Plaque for Marquerite was placed at Euston Station. With the help of many people and parties this was made possible, and we are very thankful to all.
The whole family went down to the spot in London, where Marquerite lost her life. We placed roses with personal cards attached on them. It was an emotional moment... It feels right to have a Memorial Plaque in honour of our beloved sister and daughter and friend. She will never be forgotten and will stay in our hearts forever!
I've placed some photos below for you to view the plaque, that is attached on the wall on the platform.

In the same week we got a special invitation to attend the ceremony of the bravery awards. The awards were presented by the Chief Constable of the police, and some awards were recommended by the judge in the courtcase. It is rare that families can attend this kind of ceremony, so needless to say we felt extremely privileged and honoured. To us all these special people are heroes and they deserved to be honoured. We're greatful to all of them and meeting them was a very special and unforgettable experience.

Where to find the Memorial Plaque
Go into Euston station into the tube station. Go down 2 escalators, then turn right.
The plaque is on platform 1, the Northbound one on the Northern Line. Marquerite's plaque is high up on the wall, next to a bench, around the middle of the platform.

Marquerite was my colleague, and friend... I miss her for her kindness, and her smile...
Why was it that she had to die, with so much yet to do? Because sometimes God misses his creations so much, he has to call them home sooner, to return them to where they have to be. But they will like Marquerite in heaven... for she has a kind and smiling soul.

Bravery Awards

Bravery Awards are made in recognition of specific acts by individuals who risk their own lives in a selfless way in order to save, or attempt to save, the life of one of The Queen’s subjects. They are also used to recognise similarly selfless brave acts undertaken in the prevention of crime or in the arrest or attempted arrest of dangerous criminals.

Anyone may nominate a person for a Bravery Award, though the majority of cases are made through official channels (police, fire service etc). All cases are assessed on their own merits and against criteria established by precedent. There is no limit on the number of awards and they may be made at any time, although they will usually be published in two lists each year.

For civilian awards, the Ceremonial Secretariat co-ordinates the assessment of nominations and the Prime Minister submits them to The Sovereign for approval. The Ministry of Defence considers awards recognising acts of bravery in military operations.
