Hans Leutscher is a Dutch monumentmaker who, formerly based in Rotterdam, has set up home in Sweden. He has created the beautiful monument on Marquerite's grave. The stone comes from Finland and Hans created handmade lightblue Marguerite flowers with lifelike branches. Marguerite loved flowers! It is a real work of art and very unique... just like Marquerite. Hans also took care of the Memorial Plaque that was unveiled in December 2004 at Euston Station in honour of Marquerite.

The articles below show important research that has been carried out by the english police and government. Emotional and physical abuse in and out of a relationship should be taken very seriously indeed. It is a very positive thing that serious attention is being paid to these issues by the police and the government. As the subject of emotional and physical abuse is becoming more talked about, i.e. in the press, victims will hopefully feel that their problem IS taken seriously, that they are not alone in this and that they CAN call for help.

Sky News reports on Mar 8, 2012:
Stalking is to be made a specific criminal offence and victims will be given more protection in future, David Cameron is to announce.

The Prime Minister , who will meet stalking victims at a No 10 reception to mark International Women's Day later, says ministers are determined to ensure "justice is done". (link includes video of the Prime Minister)

New Law Set To Make Stalking An Offence

Victims of stalking are being failed by the law, according to the first study of its kind, which has resulted in calls for new ways to tackle the crime. A study of 80 cases by Napo, the probation union, concludes that sentences handed down for stalking offences are often too lenient and that the law must be reformed. The publication of the study, which is to be presented to a parliamentary inquiry examining proposals to tackle the crime, comes after the shadow home secretary, Yvette Cooper, told yesterday's Labour conference that the law on stalking needed to be toughened up.

A couple of newspapers reporting on 25th September 2011 about this issue below

The Guardian: Stalking victims failed by the law

Daily Mail: Victims of stalking 'let down by justice system' which only jails violent offenders

A UK-wide helpline for victims of stalking is being launched later

BBC News reports on 29th April 2010: The phone service, which is funded by the Home Office and private donations, was developed with the police. Campaigners believe stalking is under-reported because victims fear they will not be taken seriously. They estimate there are up to 2m victims in the UK. [....]The confidential helpline will have one number for callers anywhere in the UK and there will be a single point of contact in every police force. Read the full article by clicking on the link below.

'Stalking distress going unnoticed'

1 November 2005  One in 10 people experience being stalked, and a third still suffer psychological distress a year later, research reveals. Despite this, stalking is too often thought of as a rare phenomenon or its seriousness underplayed, say experts. A British Journal of Psychiatry study finds the psychological consequences are severe even among stalking victims who do not seek help.

The authors say more recognition of the desperation that can result is needed.

Both the British Transport Police and the Metropolitan Police have guided us through the whole process of complete shock up to the courtcase. The help from our family liaisons officers from both police forces has been proven to be invaluable!

Helpful and useful advice with a list of telephone numbers and websites on the website of Supportline:

'Anyone who has ever been stalked and/or suffered harassment knows the devastating effect it has upon feelings of safety, self confidence, self esteem etc.

Everyone should have the right to go about their daily business in safety and without fear. The constant worry of being stalked can take an enormous toll upon your health and emotional state of mind. Nobody has the right to harass you or stalk you and the Police and courts can take action against anyone who is doing such a thing. Never go through this alone but always get support through friends, family, helplines, counsellors, etc.'

Hidden Hurt is an excellent U.K. based help website about domestic violence, including stalking. Rhiannon3 has a similar website, which is excellent. They share their  active forums, which is visited by women across the world and good encouraging advice is given by  caring webmasters of the site as well as the visitors who are invited to participate in communicating. Well worth visiting. Good to know such  websites exist.

Stalking Victims have a similar site, but this one is based in the U.S.A.. Their forum is excellent and it is a lively one. (Former)victims of stalking help out others and provide them with emotional support. Legal information is also given as well as info on crisiscentres and what to do to protect yourself. Laws seem to differ from state to state and can therefore be confusing for victims who need to know what help they can get from the authorities. This is a very professional website and you instantly will receive a warm welcome by other posters who only know too well what you are going through as a victim. It is so great that such a terrific website exists. Victims often become isolated and the internet to them must be God's gift in these dire circumstances!

Domestic violence and stalking, independent of one another, are continued threats to individuals and families all over the nation. Nearly 1,000,000 women and 150,000 men are directly affected by domestic violence each year.   Approximately 1.4 million people are stalked each year. Domestic violence is often a pre-cursor to stalking, doubling the damage, risks and dangers to the victim. This site is designed to provide support and valuable information for victims of both of these elusive and debilitating crimes.

Save Your Spirit The Victims Resource is a non-profit organization founded by an abuse and stalking survivor. It is its belief that the strength, perseverance and wisdom of victims and survivors, coupled with professional specialization and community, is the key to success in prevention.  Their goal is to provide awareness and support with the valuable element of personal experience.

My dear sister Marquerite...sorely missed and in our hearts forever

Victim Support has been a great help for me and my family. I am very grateful for the support I received from our contact person, Gerard, in our hometown. At the Old Bailey we received heartening support and guidance from all who work there. A big thank you to all of these wonderful people. It is amazing what a great job all volunteers do. I realise, having been confronted with such a traumatic situation, how incredibly important these people are!To visit Victim Support On-line, click the appropriate link below.

Victim Guide is a website of the Victim Assistance Fund in The Netherlands. An accessible, online guide that is simple, anonymous and which you can consult anytime. Victim Guide helps you find the way to relevant help after you are a victim of (sexual) violence, accident, medical malpractice or theft.
Victim Guide itself does not help, but redirects to assisting organizations. Here you can find practical, emotional, legal and financial support.
By clicking 'do you know a victim', you can also send information to someone else that you think could use the help. This useful site can be read in many foreign languages.

Rouwverwerking Pagina is a Dutch website about grieving. This website contains all kinds of links. You can also write on the notice board to talk about your feelings that visitors can respond to. A positive thing, I find. It is a very useful and comforting website for people who have just lost someone or for someone who wants to support someone who has lost a dear person.  Interview in Dutch magazine Glamour

In January 2007 it was 5 years since we lost Marquerite. She is greatly missed, but is with us in our hearts always...
Dutch magazine Glamour asked me if I wanted to share how I'd experienced those 5 years.
For anyone interested in reading, the interview was published in the January '07 issue.
Thank you, Marloes.

 Interview TED

At the end of August 2006 I was asked for an interview by TED, a student magazine .You can read the entire (dutch) article on-line , just browse to page 6/7. A victim of groupstalking also tells his (gripping) story.

 Interview Flair

With Flair (dutch magazine) I did a 4-page feature interview at their request. I am grateful they showed such interest. It was issued at the end of October 2003 and I had no idea how or if people would react. It was an emotional thing to do, to tell Marquerite's story and how I've experienced it, but it felt right. It is also a strange feeling that so much of yourself as it were is laying there in the shops for everyone to read! As it happens I got a lot of response and suppor, which truely and honestly warmed my heart. I'm glad I did it and I hope that I was able to bring a message across as well: that stalking is a serious matter and that it could happen to anyone. And hopefully I have been able to create a bit more awareness .
Thanks to all at Flair and the readers who took the trouble to write to me. You've all been amazing.
