I have lived in Poland for two and a half years and loved it. As a European that traveled extensively Western Europe before setting foot on Eastern soil Poland came as a revelation. People, their culture and interests, everything looked so familiar in charming new ways. Poland has pretty much everything a serious traveler might be interested in: beautiful cities, huge forests, the second largest lake area in Europe, the Baltic sea, the Tatra and Penini Mountain and even a sand dune desert up north on the Baltic Sea. The only thing to be considered carefully when planning the trip is the climate as winter can be severe. Check it out in the link below.
Although here you find pictures of well known destinations and established tourist attractions such as Krakow, Gdansk and Warsaw, I will concentrate on showing you a side of the country and people you might not find in travel books. The little yet charming gems that made me love and perhaps understand a bit this country and its people.

Poland is a large country where art and culture have always been paramount. Back in the Renaissance it was a very active center of cultural exchange and many artists from all over Western Europe lived and worked there. Poland was dubbed "Paris of East" and retained its allure until the Nazi invasion and subsequent Russian occupation. The only thing left by the latter is its typical architecture – interesting at times, plain ugly overall. What the former left is a different kind of eerie architecture: Auschwitz, Birkenau and other concentration camps. Altogether the many faces of the rich and troubled Polish history will charm you, excite you, touch you and hunt you forever.
