why don't you read the link page in full, there's links within that page to some studies and in fact the most prominent member of the “pro chelation” lobby, dr. andrew cutler who advocates the frequent ALA dose protocol says that large single daily dose ALA is extremely destructive, so obviously there is an issue !

you need to understand the role of sulphur in body chemistry, its the “glue” of molecular reactions, its just the right stickiness . .

the problem with mercury is that it bonds to sulphur better than anything else

alpha lipoic acid has two sulphur molecules in a claw like configuration, when it comes into contact with mercury or some other similarly attractive metals it moves it (mobilizes it)

so when you take ala , (or NAC !) the mercury is moved around to make for new damage as rate reactions call it to fall off the ALA again . .

and that ALA is a chelator and NAC while not a chelator also mobilises mercury

and then you can research chelation and it won't take much of that to convince you of the real problem, that supplement manufacturers when they slip in quite high doses of these compounds into their multis are inducting people who take their products into a whole new world of very damaging chelation protocols

you won't find a lot of studies in this specific area because of a lack of funding though there is quite a bit of science available to those who put the leg work in

unfortunately this is not a ‘tell me like i'm five’ topic which is why so many get so savagely burnt by these “chelating” compounds i guess !
