The Humans React
When word got around that The Mushrooms had reappeared and that they were
hostile, the word was immediately taken to the High
Board, the new Earth government. After much debating, planning
and coin flipping, they decided that nothing could be done to stop The
Mushrooms until they actually commited an Act
of War. Then, the High Board got word that one of the people
killed in the accident was a janitor at a convinience store that was used as a front for a government anti-drug operation. It was declared that Earth had lost a great diplomat, and that The Mushrooms would pay.
The High Board could finally declare war on The Mushrooms.
An army of 400 highly trained Navy SEALs were sent into The Mushroom Zone through the portal that Thusdack left behind. They all died instantly when they breathed the fume filled air.
The world's SWAT teams, The A Team, and the United States synchronized swimming team were sent into The Mushroom Zone with air tanks and gas masks, but their weapons all proved useless. The bullets all went right through the Mushrooms' soft, fungal bodies. The armies were all destroyed.
Scientists had to re-build the anti-mushroom ray based on an artifact from the Smithsonian Insitute. An army of petroleum transfer technicions and custodial sanitation engineers were sent into The Mushroom Zone with the newly re-discovered weapons. They were all killed because the weapons did not work in The Mushroom Zone.
After three weeks of research, a new version of the weapon was created with help from rotting documents found in a boarded up room in the basement of the Smithsonian. As a last resort, used car salesmen, the Pennsylvania Dutch, and tow truck drivers named Al were sent into battle with the newer weapons. Their inexperience was no match for the battle-trained Mushrooms, and they were all destroyed.
The members of the High Board pleaded, bribed, and blackmailed the ex-Secret Service members into telling all they knew about the history of The Mushroom Wars, a.k.a Operation Fungi, including the identities of all of the Mushroom Destroyers. The search was on to find the original Mushroom Destroyers, Earth's only hope of revenge against The Mushrooms.
