In preparation for an earthquake or any other disaster, the first thing one needs to do is take a tour of your home and garage, to look for hazards.  Try using this checklist.

Have your hanging plants been secured with safety ceiling screws?

Do you have any heavy pictures above the head of your bed?

Is your computer secured to the desk with hook and loop tape?

Will the movement of furniture in any room block the exit route?

Is your fire extinguisher located in a place where it is easy to reach?

In The Garage

Where is the wrench to shut off the gas line?

Are any objects on shelves which can fall on your car if shaken lose?

Do you have any chemicals stored in the garage near any heat source?

Is your water heater strapped to the wall?

Are there any unsecured items which might create a hazard upon entering the garage if they fell off of the shelves?
