POINT EDWARD  UNITED CHURCH

WEDDING POLICY

What does it mean to be married at Point Edward United Church?

A Christian wedding is a service of worship. The Christian Church is involved in weddings because we believe that God gives life and love through Jesus Christ. As God helps us to share our love with one another, we grow spiritually. A Christian marriage is a RESPONSE to God's call to bring two people together and, within its heart, lies a life-long promise made in the presence of God.

Marriage is a GIFT from God in which a woman and a man grow together in love and commitment to one another. God supports us in our attempts to do this.

We believe that a wedding at Point Edward United Church is a COMMITMENT to a Christian marriage based on faith in Jesus Christ.

What can you expect from us?

Point Edward United church encourages spiritual growth through its Sunday services and mid-week activities. In these ways, we offer people support and care throughout their lives. We believe that regular church attendance and participation in the life and work of the church is important. We will encourage couples to worship together and share in the wider life of the Christian community.

What does the church expect from you?

It is expected that your decision to marry at point Edward United Church is based on a genuine desire to maintain a church affiliation.

Fee Schedule:

Organist $150.00           Custodian $50.00            Minister $150.00

Those without an active contributing affiliation to this congregation at the time of the application will be charged a fee of $150.00 for the use of the church in addition to the above. Active contributing affiliates may wish to mark this special occasion by making a donation to our "Building Fund."

We require that a $50.00 non-refundable deposit be made at the time of the application to marry in our church. The remainder is to be paid at the rehearsal.

Rehearsals:

The date and time of your rehearsal will be set in consultation with the minister. Rehearsals start on time and last 30 minutes

Flowers:

If you plan to have flowers, please contact the Church custodian to make arrangements for delivery and placement.

Pew Bows:

Only pew bow holders may be used. No nails or staples may be used on church furniture or woodwork.

Photographs:

All professional photographers should attempt to contact the minister prior to the day of the wedding. No photographs may be taken during the actual marriage ceremony, but there are other appropriate times in which pictures may be taken (during the entrance, the recessional and the signing of the register). We expect that all photographers will respect that a wedding ceremony is a service of worship and should not be disrupted. Video recorders without lights may be used during the ceremony.

Bulletins:

Wedding bulletins may be used if you wish. They can be purchased at any Christian bookstore. All couples are responsible for purchasing their own bulletins.

Music:

You are expected to initiate contact with the church organist well in advance of the day of your wedding to ensure that the organist is available and to select appropriate music. If the organist is not available, you may ask another musician. However, the church organist must give permission to the person you have chosen.

Payment of Fees:

Separate envelopes, each labeled for the various persons involved with the wedding, should be brought the night of the rehearsal and given to the minister.

This avoids the additional responsibility and sometimes confusion on the day of the wedding. If you are paying by cheque, please make payable "to cash."

Marriage Licence:

We require that your marriage licence be brought to the church office at least one week before the date of your wedding.

Marriage licences are valid for three months from the date of purchase. They may be obtained from the City Clerk at the City Hall in any municipal office within the Province of Ontario.

The Worship Committee of the Church:

The Worship Committee authorizes the use of the church for weddings.

Weddings at Other Locations:

The minister is available to conduct weddings at locations other than the church building. The fee for the minister at other locations is $150.00.
