Our Purpose
We represent local citizens and act as a co-ordinating group. We use quilts as a means of delivering a message throughout
the community. Refugees, particularly children and families should not be subject to detention. We hope that the stories depicted
in the quilts inspire people to join with us in expressing our concerns.
We work closely with the Illawarra Refugee Action Collective (Illawarra RAC) and have recieved a small grant from Wollongong
City Council.

"Quilts like diaries, are an accumulation of bits and pieces of the maker's life, a respository of ideas, hopes and feelings"
- Roderick Kirocofe, Historian of Quilting.
Quilting has a checkered history. It is a reflection of society as a whole as well as the individual makers.
Quilting continues to evolve and has ranged in materials from silks and satins in the Victorian era to flour and feed sacks
and worn out clothing during the depression. Our 'quilts' reflect modern times and we have
stretched the meaning to include everybody and eveybody's style and any materials. We encourage anybody to have a go.
The square on the right is painted by 17 year old, Rosalia Catalano.
