I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Nova Scotia College of Art and design, majoring in Fine Art with a focus
on drawing and painting. (I also earned a minor in Fashion after developing an interest in textiles).
NSCAD proved to be a great place to develop my skills as a visual artist. Starting out, I focused
on painting and drawing. Oil paint and gouache were mediums I'd never worked with before, and acrylic only a bit. I
wound up doing most of my painting in acrylic, which I found to be versatile and user-friendly.
There were new mediums to be discovered in drawing classes too, like charcoal, chalk
pastel, and ink with brush and water. I ended up doing a lot of my work in pen and ink, particularly after graduation.
While I probably spent a greater percentage of time in the painting studio during college,
I've found that drawing is my strength. All told, NSCAD was an invaluable step in my artistic development, and an important
life experience.
