This is ongoing. I have taken to pen and ink for a few reasons. Some are practical, like the portability of pens
and paper and the freedom not to have to spray fixative on everything I draw. Beyond that, though, I've developed a
real love for the way ink works, with pen but also with water and brush.
"Inkblots"
It started with drawings like this. Gesture drawings
and sketches that I would ink in according to the haphazard lines I'd put down. This has evolved quite a bit over the
years, and to this day it's what I do most. I've been calling this style of drawing "Inkblot", since they tend to look
like ink spattered and slung across the page.
Outside of my "Inkblot" work, I've done a lot of line art and
work in a sketchy kind of style the I don't really have a name for. Like Inkblot, it's very gesture drawing based. Pen
is definitely the medium in which I am most comfortable.
I've recently rediscovered ink and water. I had tried it before in college, but haven't had as much time outside
of school to do potentially messy work. Nevertheless, it was a real revelation to get back into it and discover that
it works beautifully in combination with pen work.
