Burning/God Gundam Synopsis: Since my last G-Gundam review involved the Dark/Devil Gundam(another victim of the name changes) it is natural for me to Review the Burning Gundam now. When I first saw this figure I bought it mostly to see how the lead figure of the series would measure up as a MSiA/MFiA. Granted my bias against the series you may be surprised in regards of my conclusions. The Figure: While panel lines are not done to this figure you will find the overall design of the figure does not require it like so other past releases. The head is well detailed and even with the absence of pane lines well painted. The V antennae seem a little large on the figure however had the antennae been thinner they would be to unstable and more prone to warping then these ones of soft plastic. The four head vulcan cannons are well detailed instead of looking like a yellow smudge Head rotation is slightly disrupted by the torso armor and completely hindered when the revealed torso gattling guns are in place. Tilting of the head is minimal but not too bad. The Shoulder articulation was a pleasant surprise taking traits from the Gundam Version 2 figure like a swiveling shoulder joint providing almost natural movement in each shoulder. The range of motion is so good that even the large shoulder armor on the Burning Gundam does not hinder the motion. The elbow joint bends a little over 90 degrees like the average MSiA. The blue forearm guards are nice in terms that they are adjustable in two points however these guards can get in the way during some poses but that is a minor gripe. Hands coming with this figure include 2 closed fists, 2 sword hands, 2 open hands with fingers spread out, 2 open hands with hands flat, and 2 "burning fingers" hands that are made of a transparent orange plastic. The legs on this figure also share some great traits first seen in the RX-78-2 Gundam Version 2 MSiA like the double-jointed knee. The upper leg is hampered by the skirt armor however the armor is a little flexible to allow better movement. The knees as fore-mentioned are double-jointed allowing for natural bending. The only downside observed in the knees is the popping off of the left knee. The back of the calves open up to reveal thrusters, these thrusters match the gray internals so maybe a paintjob would have been in order. The ankles feature good range in motion with slight interference of the ankle armor. Even the foot is articulated featuring a movable "toe" and a movable heel allowing the foot to close up. The torso received a lot of attention with upper torso hatches that switch out with the hatches open revealing the gatling cannons. The chest opens up to reveal an orange gemlike unit. The compartment when closed can serve as a bulge hindering arm movement. The torso can not twist well because of the rigid rear plastic skirt armor. Hip armors can swivel on a ball joint with a small notch to hold the beam saber hilts. The backpack/corelander will be discussed in the accessories section. The Accessories: Beam sabers (2): The handles of these sabers are a little thick however they fit the hands well though the right hand holds the saber a little loose. The blades slightly curved to resemble a Japanese sword(not curved enough to look like a Katana. Corelander: This is larger then most core landers however this is expected given the design of God Gundam. The core lander attaches to the back of the figure in much the same way as past G-fighter figures. The fins of the corelander fan out so that the Hyper-mode ring can be placed on. In this fashion the corelander can sometimes get in the way of arm articulation. The only other problem I see is when the fins fan out they can at times come loose. Torso Gatling Guns(2): These attachments were an interesting addition. They are interchangeable with the removable panel. This is a nice touch and would have been nice for the Wing Zero or Wing Zero Custom. Hypermode ring: this was the best description I could use for this thing. It is the rainbow-like band that emerges when the Gundam goes into Hypermode. To recreate the look of the series Bandai made the thing into a solid ring of transparent multi-colored plastic with notches fitted to accommodate each fin of the corelander. Play Value: As G-fighter figures go this figure has plenty of gimmicks to keep the figure interesting despite certain drawbacks. All-in-all this would score highly among other G-Fighter figures. Display Value: While I am not a big fan of G-fighter this figure has a nice design that makes it a good display piece in any collection. Conclusion: A solid figure and probably the one of the best figures of The G-Gundam Line. | |||||||
