Dacrycarpus dacrydioides

kahikatea.jpg

White Pine

It is New Zealands tallest tree, it is known that large flocks of Kereru have been seen eating the fruits of one tree.
In it's youth stages the tree has a most distinctive conical form, with changes with age to a heavily branched spreading crown as the tree grows in it's life which may last more than 700 years.
There's alot of Kahikatea growing in Pureora.
We have planted one Kahikatea so far.
