HISTORY
PRE-MARCAL TIMELINE
Although the first hint of MARCAL occurred on March 5, 2003, Marcie Walsh actually first appeared on October 17, 2002, identified in the script only as "Woman." Kathy Brier has stated that she was only slanted for five episodes but due to the positive response the character generated she was put on contract. Nathaniel Marston took over the role of Al Holden on December 4, 2001. Both actors were thrust right into the middle of Jessica Morris's "Jen Storyline" and that Jencentric focus is clearly evident in this brief overview of some of the episodes that led up to MARCAL. September 2, 2002 -March 5, 2003 9.2.02 Angry at the thought of Cris and Natalie almost making love and desperate to keep Cris, Jen begs an astonished Al, who was just relieved that she forgave him for setting fire to her house, to sleep with her. Cris & Natalie are interrupted before they can confess their feelings to each other but Cris admits he is falling in love with Natalie to Keri and Natalie makes a similar confession to Rex. Dialogue 9.3.02 Al makes love to Jen. Al is confused afterwards, however, when Jen feigns upset and claims their lovemaking was a mistake. Jen and Lindsay reunite. Jen uses to internet to find some answers about fertility. Cris follows Keri's advice and tries to talk to Natalie, but a protective Rex interferes and tells him that Natalie is dating someone else. Al tells Natalie that Jen knows about what is going on between she and Cris. Dialogue 9.4.02 Jen, convinced that she needs to sleep with a man at least twice to ensure she gets pregnant, seduces a now skeptical Al into sleeping with her again. After making love, Jen is shocked when Al mentions he told Natalie that Jen knows the truth about she and Cristian. Rex continues to interfere and as a result Cris & Natalie misinterpret what the other is saying. Cris finds Natalie crying outside his door. Dialogue
9.5. 02 Cris stops Natalie from fleeing town. Jen dupes Al into deflecting Natalie’s suspicions. Natalie & Cristian determine that Jen doesn't actually know the truth. Cristian overhears Jen on the phone telling Al she misses him. Dialogue 9.6.02 Al tries to convince Gabrielle (Gabs) that he’s happy with Jen. Gabs is not buying it. Jen successfully explains away her phone call to Al in front of Cris. Al is stunned when Jen says that she and Cris are still together. Jen warns Al to stay away from her. Rex confesses to Natalie that he told Cris she had been on a date. Wanting to get on with her life, Natalie invites Chad on a date. Cris warns Chad not to hurt her. Chad tells Natalie that he thinks Cris has feelings for her. Bo tells Gabs that he has new evidence about the fire. 9.9.02 Al becomes angry when Jen insists that he stay out of her life. Al threatens to tell Cris. Gabs learns that Al may have set the fire at Jen’s house. 9.10.02 Jen is relieved when Al backs off from telling Cris. Al learns Gabs found the paint thinner that he used to set the fire in his duffel bag. 9.13.02 Al steals his duffel bag from the garret. Bo calls Al and he’s afraid Gabs turned him in. 9.18.02 Bo offers Al an unofficial plea bargain and outlines his punishment. 9.23.02 Jen is thrilled when the doc confirms she is pregnant. Jen announces her marriage at Llanfair. 9.24.02 Cris warns Jen not to make premature marriage announcements. Al encounters Natalie while looking for Jen. 9.25.02 Jen prevents Cris from admitting he has feelings for Nat. She allows Carlotta to “accidentally” discover she’s pregnant. Nat gets all noble and insists that Cris marry Jen. 9.26.02 Cris is dragging his feet. Jen manipulates Carlotta into confronting Cris about the baby and marriage. Al tells Max that he and Jen recently slept together. 9.27.02 Jen manipulates Nat with guilt. Max realizes that Jen took advantage of Al’s feelings. 9.30.02 Cris tells Nat he must marry Jen.
Natalie denies Al’s accusation that she is in love with Cris and pulls him
into a kiss. Lindsay finds out what
Jen is up to. 10.1.02 Max tries to make Al see that his love for Jen has turned obsessive. Cris overhears Al & Jen fighting about their tryst. Lindsay considers telling Cris the truth but doesn’t. Jen warns Lindsay not to spill the beans. Cris announces he plans to marry Jen. 10.2.02 Jen wiggles out of Al’s accusations and then crushes his feelings when she tells him she is marrying Cris. 10.7.02 Jen forces Lindsay to keep her secret then sticks it to Natalie by asking her to be her maid of honor. 10.16.02 Roxy watches the Luna tapes she found in the trunk and then gives them to Max 10.17.02
Gabs tries to convince Al to leave town and visit the twins in NC. He refuses because he sees it as a ploy to get him away from Jen’s wedding. Jen goes for an appointment with Dr. Conklin and meets Marcie, who recognizes her as "the prettiest girl on campus." To Jen’s chagrin, Cris arrives as well. She manages to get rid of him only to inadvertently alert Al to the fact that she is at Dr. Conklin’s office. Dialogue 10.18.02 At Dr. Conklin’s office, Al threatens to tell Cris that he and Jen slept together. Cris arrives and Al insists on knowing Jen’s due date. Dialogue 10.21.02 Jen is surprised to learn she is in her 2nd trimester. Dr. Conklin’s assistant, Marcie, confesses to changing the due date. Al believes Cris is the father. Dialogue 10.24.02 Jen tortures Nat and Cris by throwing them together. Al confesses to Max that he wanted the baby to be his. Max shares the Luna tape. Jen “handles” Marcie, who has the potentially explosive information about the real due date for the baby, by making her think they are friends. 10.25.02 Cris punches Al when he bad mouths Natalie. 10.28.02 Al now feels that his suspicions about Cris’ feelings for Natalie have been confirmed. Marcie serves as a sounding board for Jen’s scheme and helps to thwart Cris when he attempts to tell Jen how he feels about Natalie. 10.29.02 Jen asks Marcie to be her maid of honor and elicits her promise to never tell anyone that Jen is carrying Al’s baby. 10.31.02 Jen manipulates Carlotta again in order to speed up the wedding date. 11.1.02 Jen forces Cris to marry her by claiming unless it happens immediately she won’t marry him. 11.4.02 Al is suspicious when Marcie arrives at Llanfair claiming to be a close friend of Jen’s. Dialogue 11.6.02 Marcie gives Jen the original copies of Jen’s medical records, which prove that Cris is not the father of Jen’s baby. Jen destroys the files. Al visits Marcie and questions her about Jen. Al steals the key to Marcie’s apartment. Dialogue 11.8.02 Al breaks into Marcie’s apartment, determined to discover why Jen befriended Marcie so quickly. Al finds Marcie’s diary and learns he is the father of Jen’s baby. Dialogue 11.11.02 Al is desperate to find Jen after learning he is the father of the baby. Al barges into the Country Club and demands the wedding be stopped. The wedding had already been interrupted by Natalie. Dialogue 11.12.02 Jen agrees to speak to Al privately. Al forces Jen to admit that he is the father of her baby. Al threatens to tell Cris the truth but Jen warns Al that she’ll send him to prison. Jen then pulls out the big gun and announces that if Al does not back off, she will terminate her pregnancy to make sure Al never sees his child. Jen returns. The ceremony begins. Al once again stops Jen and Cris as they recite their wedding vows. Dialogue 11.13.02 Al stops himself from revealing the truth about Jen’s baby at the wedding. Before Jen and Cris can complete their vows, however, Jen screams and collapses. 11.14.02 Jen is rushed to the emergency room. Dr. Conkilin tells Cris and all concerned that Jen suffered a miscarriage. Cris gently breaks the news to Jen, who asks him to promise that he will never leave. Jessica is taken aback by Al’s tirade against Jen. Al injures his hand in a fit of rage. Al goes to the hospital to get treatment for his hand and encounters Carlotta who informs him that Jen lost the baby. 11.18.02 Jen tries to get Cris to marry her anyway but he changes the subject. Cris tells Carlotta that he is not going to marry Jen. Jen vows to Lindsay to never let Cris go. 11/20/02 Dr.Conklin assures Jen that she isn’t responsible for the miscarriage. A scheming Jen tells Al that he caused her miscarriage. 11.21.02 Al denies to Max that he was the father of Jen’s baby. 11.25.02 Jen is furious with Jessica for telling Al about the wedding. 11.27.02 Jen uses Keri and Carlotta’s visit to keep Cris from telling her about his feelings for Natalie.
12.3.02 Cris tells Natalie that Jen suspects what is going on between them. In response, Natalie tells Cris she plans to stay married to Mitch but fails to tell him the reason is because Mitch is threatening to kill Cris if she doesn’t. 12.5.02 Jen continues to try to think of ways to hold onto Cris but finally sees it as futile. She decides to stop manipulating him and just let fate take its course. Cris, however, is forced to accept Natalie’s decision to stay with Mitch. When Jen overhears Cris tell Antonio that Natalie is married, she is very happy. 12.6.02 Jen is thrilled to learn that Natalie married Mitch 12.19.02 Jen becomes furious and destroys the Xmas tree 12.24.02 Cris tells Jen that it is over and she pretends to be fine about it. 12.26.02 Al realizes Gabs is slightly disappointed that Bo did not propose 12. 27.02 Al finds Jessica at Asa’s stables. Al comforts Jessica and convinces her to let him call Viki. Al convinces Jess that Viki and Clint love her. 12.31.02 Seth arrives as Al gives Jessica a friendly kiss.
1.2.03 Jen pretends that she has accepted the fact that Natalie & Cris love each other but then lets it slip that Cris supposedly threatened to kill Mitch. 1.9.03 Jen manipulates Judge Fitzwater into believing that Cris is violent. Shawna overhears. 1.14.03 Al tells Viki about Jessica planning to leave town. Todd prints the article detailing Jen’s manipulations. 1.16.03 Sam discovers what Jen is up to. 1.17.03 Jen confesses everything to Sam, including how she used Al. Sam confers with Judge Fitzwater. 1.23.03 Al hopes things work out for Gabs & Bo. Jen forms a new plan to get Cris back. 1.27.03 Jen confesses to Cris that Al was the father of the baby she lost and admits her responsibility. 2.3.03 Voice of the Night’s first broadcast. Jen and Marcie break into Mitch’s cult house. Marcie leaves because she questions the sanity of the plan. 2.4.03 Jen is caught by Mitch, who gets her to take a shower. Marcie’s first day working at the diner. Joey, the curate, makes his first appearance as does his cousin Sarah under the guise of Flash. Marcie tries unsuccessfully to reach Jen on her cell phone. Jen escapes from Mitch by rushing into the snow wearing only a think robe. 2.5.03 Jen lays unconscious in the snow. At the diner, Renee tells Al that she is worried about Max who is drinking. Later, Al picks up on Marcie’s fear about Jen’s safety. Marcie refuses to tell him why she’s concerned. 2.6.03 Max and Gabs discuss Al and his desire to live on campus. 2.7.03 Al rushes Jen to the hospital; she survives. 2.11.03 Max visits Al and realizes he is about to flunk out of school. Al becomes angry when Max doesn’t believe that he is over his obsession with Jen. Jessica visits Al. 2.12.03 Al visits Jen in the hospital. He tells her he is over her and must stay away. Compares himself to her and her obsession with Cris. 2.13.03 Jen is frightened by Mitch in her hospital room who tells her to not tell anyone he was involved in what happened to her. 2.26.03 Al sleeps through an important exam but doesn’t tell Max or Gabs. Rex offers Al the name of a drug dealer who can supply “study aids.” 2.28.03 Rex and Al wait at the diner for Rex's connection to show up but Brad is busy arguing with Joey and Flash at The Garage. Max tells Al that he has hired a tutor for him but Al doesn’t want any part of it. After getting some drugs from Brad, Al pops a pill. 3.4.03 Al tells Joey he has been in contact with CJ. Continues to pop pills as he tries to catch up on his schoolwork. Students at LU prepare for a party as Al sleeps in the student union. 3.5.03 The party at the Student Union: MARCAL begins! Jen is drunk and causes a scene and then blasts Marcie when she tries to intervene. Al sees what happens and tries to warn Marcie about the perils of trying to be Jen’s friend.
