Fame Is hard.
Chapter 1                                                                                                                                                                                                     he offered her his arm and she took it as they went over to a man who looked
important.
“Mel, I want to introduce you to someone. This is uh,” he looked to her
for help; he
hadn't asked her name.
She smiled as she answered, “Somer Thompson,” with poise.
“Sing something,” the man directed, looking her over. She felt like a
piece of meat, ready
for inspection.
She closed her eyes and let a melody come to her head, “I try but I
can't seem to get
myself To think of anything But you Your breath on my face Your warm gentle
kiss I taste the
truth I taste the truth We know what I came here for So I won't ask for more
I wanna be with you
If only for a night To be the one whose in your arms Who holds you tight I
wanna be with you
There's nothing more to say There's nothing else I want more than to feel
this way I wanna be
with you.”
The producer looked at her, money signs basically popping into his eyes.
Her voice was
amazing and she was even more gorgeous. Of course, her hair was red, but all
they had to do
was add a little blonde and they had a star.
“Can you come to the JIVE offices tomorrow around noon?” He asked,
studying her
face.
“Yeah, that should be fine.”
“Okay, well I'll see you then,” he shook her hand and she walked away
slowly, trying not
to scream with excitement. She was finally going to be a star, the only
thing she had ever dared
to dream about. She smiled to herself as she walked out to her car; there
wasn't reason to be at
the party anymore.

As soon as she got home she called her best friend. “Oh my God, Beth, I
got a contract!”
“Really?”
“Yeah, I think so. I just have to go down to the offices tomorrow. I'm
so excited, you
don't even know.”
“Oh, I think I do.”
They talked late into the night, and Beth helped her pick out an outfit
to wear over the
phone. She stepped out of the hotel room in her Chinese printed skirt and
white shirt, with her
black cardigan slung over her shoulder. The Mary Janes were new, and kind of
hurt her feet, but
she just kept telling herself how great she looked so she could ignore it.
She had put her flaming
red hair up in chopsticks, completing the whole Asian motif of her outfit.
When she arrived at the building the man who had discovered her at the
party met her at
the door and led her upstairs to the executive offices. She had to sign on a
few lines, and sing for
a few more people, but forty-five minutes later she was an official recording
artist.
A week later she was in the recording studio starting to record the songs
they had written
for her. She had taken some of the songs Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears had rejected, vowing to make them into hits.
After her album's release they told her she would be the opening act on
the Backstreet Boys new tour. She almost popped out of her skin and called
Beth to come with her on the tour.
She met all of her dancers and they hit it off well. She had three
dancers to back her up: Jen, Rachel, and Victoria. Victoria had been in the
business for a while and was involved with A.J.. She was tiny, only about five
feet tall, with long light Brown hair and gray eyes. She was one of the best
dancers Somer had ever seen and it was easy to see that her and A.J were in
love.
Jen was 5'10”, with blonde hair and blue eyes; basically the perfect
woman. She was great in acrobatics, and attracted a lot of attention
onstage. She was single, but had her eye on Nick. He was interested in her
as well, but more interested in his career at that time.
Rachel was by far Somer's favorite. Her outgoing nature and sarcastic
remarks sent her into fits of laughter, and she found herself admiring her.
She was tall, like Jen, but that's where the similarities stopped. She had
long dark hair, green eyes, and a small tattoo of an eight ball on her left
shoulder blade. She too, was single, but her and A.J had always shared a
common passion
for each other's company. A.J hadn't gone out on Victoria yet though; he had
stayed faithful.
