Ultrasonic  End-Area  Inspection
 

Over  85%  of  all  drill  pipes  failures  occur  in  the  Upset  transition  zone. Traditional  rack  inspection  have  missed  defects  in  this  critical  zone  due  to  variable  factors  such  as  ID  Corrosion, Scale , Coatings  and  an  irregular  geometry.

The  new  Ultrasonic  end-area  inspection  tool  developed  by  Tuboscope  employs  shear  wave  ultrasonics  in   a  portable scanning  assembly  to  provide  360 degrees  ID , OD  inspection  coverage  of  the  upset  run-out  zone  and  at  least  18"  of  the  tube  body. The  highly  sensitive  system  can  even  detect  minute  fatigue cracks.
 

 
The  UT  end-area  unit  has  unmatched  features  some  of  which  are
  1. Ability  to  detect  minute  fatigue  cracks  even  in  the  presence  of  ID  Scale.
  2. Doesn't  damage  Internal  Coating
  3. Provides  360  degrees  Internal  and  External  coverage.
  4. Inspects  3-1/2" , 4" , 4-1/2" , 5"  and  5-1/2"  drill  pipes.
