OCD IN THE MEDIA.
Throughout time media has played an important role in bringing some Mental Disorders to the public. While this hasn't always been done with the greatest amount of tact nor accuracy, more so than ever may people still only be introduced to a specific disorder such as OCD through a show they have been watching or some other type of media. Misunderstandings and/or Facts have been introduced into millions of mind with 1 switch of the remote and the media has made Mental Disorders as popular as popularity itself. To a bystander, of course.
People now all know about Depression and besides the many talk-shows that directly try to address Mental Disorders there are also a numerous references made in shows, books and movies. Depression may still be seen by some as someone being weak, chances are that the number of people agreeing to this has decreased.
So when will it be OCD's turn to success? Well it has been a busy few years for OCD in the Media. While a T.V.- show with high ratings depicted a detective with OCD in the T.V. Series "Monk" a movie (based on the book) named "MatchStick Men" came out that showed a criminal with OCD and all this while a Hollywood star wrote a book "The Pleasure of My Company: A Novel".
Will OCD's Fame end here or not? Maybe the media will have to explore a new Mental Disorder that will aid them to give their characters some quirkiness and depth. So OCD makes for a good story. Here are some of those OCD (and other) moments gathered for you.
