Unicorn: First off let's Tsuzuki and I explain some words to you even though Juohcho Basics Lecture was at the end and we will change it a bit. Yes, I trust him enough to give him a chance.

Tsuzuki: Wa, it is my turn! To understand our world, you must learn some terms.

Meifu is the land of the dead. Chijou is the Land of the Living .

Joukai is the Land of Heaven. Kon is the soul of a person.

The Juohcho is the department that keeps track of the souls of the dead. There are ten Chou, which are the district blocks set over Japan, form the Juoncho in regulating the cases of the dead. Enmachou is the top cho in Juohcho that controls Tokyo's dead and special cases of other cho and eighteen people run it. Enma Daioh is head of Enmacho and governs over Juohcho. Shokan is the summons division that retrieves missing souls or Kon which have not appeared in court to be judged or investigate unnatural deaths. Shinigami are the Gods of Death who are the under paid agents in the Shokan in each cho that work in pairs. Kiseki is the Book of the Dead that records the names of the dead to appear in Meifu to be sorted, if the Kon does not appear then it becomes a case for the Shinigami to solve.

Fuda are magical paper charms that aid in the casting of spells or wards which the Shinigami have to write them out in ink and learn from another. Shikigami are mythical beings from Gensou Kai that can be summoned by a Shinigami who they serve only. Three at the maximum except Tsuzuki being able to control twelve. Each Shinigami have their own unique powers like thought sensing or control over shadows. Ohryu are the dragon-like beasts and Shouki are like demon gods that Muraki can summon at will. Akuma are true demons.

A little place I like to call Area 51. =)Kat and I handle the really strange cases. We will continue this lesson another time. Okay, now on to Two on the Opposite Side of the River Banks Arc. Characters that appeared:

	Tsuzuki Asato: Born on Feb. 24, 1900 in Tokyo of the Meiji era. He is 180 cm (5' 9") tall. Loves eating sweets, sake, gardening, dancing, and (really bad) cooking. Died and became a shinigami when he was 27. Has very little memory of being alive only guilt, madness, and unhappiness. He is friendly, easy going and means what he says. He has strong energy power and gets power from his 12 shikigami when sommoned.		Asuka (Kimura Masaki): Drowned while saving his cousin Ayako and became a shinigami to be her guardian spirit. He was Tsuzuki's new partner for a short time.		Tatsumi Seiichiro: Born on Dec. 27, ????. He is the secretary to Chief Konoe and maintains finances. He was Tsuzuki's partner, but had to leave him. His ability is having control over shadows.
	Sugisawa Ayako: 17 year old girl who lost her will to live over the guilt of losing her cousin Masaki. Her name appeared on the Kiseki, but was removed when she wanted to live again.		Chief Konoe Kacho: Born on June 12 ,???? in Nagano. He is the Head senior of Enmacho and makes out the assignments. He is one of the few who knows Tsuzuki's past.		Kobayashi: Ex-partner of Tsuzuki that was transferred away.

The Goshoshin Twins:

They are the Librarians and keepers of the records of a soul's good and bad deeds. From time to time one of the two helps the shinigami on a case.

Kat: This is a case when Tsuzuki had a different partner...one of those....well, just read the story to find out. Konoe had ordered Tsuzuki to get the spirit of Ayako and he is assigned with a new partner, Asuka.

Tsuzuki: I used to have a partner, Kobayashi but he left me. *sniffs* He got transferred to another duty. And Tatsumi-san isn't quite sure if I should be trusted with his job. *blows nose*

Tatsumi: But of course.....I cannot even trust you to protect an apple pie.

Tsuzuki: That's a different story, it shouldn't be protected, it should be eaten.

Tatsumi: It is suppose to be an evidence, you idiot!

*Unicorn hides the pie plate*

Kat: Ah...that's another case. Let's finish this one, okay? Tsuzuki oriented Asuka about the place where they worked and what they do. Tsuzuki

also mentioned about his bad record so he haven't gotten a raise but Asuka cheered him up about it.

Tsuzuki: I told Asuka about our case regarding Ayako who is physically alive but spiritually dead so her name came up and we have to get her

spirit. I noticed that Asuka is looking intently at Ayako's picture. We went to the living world but I somehow got lost. We found her walking off a

building. I tried to stop her since it is still early for her to die and we ended up falling down. *sweatdrops* How embarrassing.

Unicorn: You been a shinigami for over 70 years and you forgot that you can fly T-T

Kat: When Ayako saw Asuka, she hugged him and called him Masaki. Asuka firmly told her that she is mistaken but Ayako insisted that he is Masaki, her cousin who died six years ago. They all went to Ayako's house to explain who they are. When asked about Masaki, Ayako told them that he is her beloved cousin who saved her from drowning but she was unable to save him since she was too scared to pull him up at that time. Ever since then, Ayako lost her will to live and would rather die but there seems to be some forces preventing her from killing herself.

Tsuzuki: I told her that she can be successful in her suicide with his help by making a barrier to prevent interruptions from other people. Asuka ruined the plan by berating on Ayako for being self-centered and just running away to escape her guilt. He then left me with a very unhappy Ayako who wanted even more to commit suicide to make Asuka angry. I warned her the possibility of going to hell and not being reincarnated if she committed suicide. She said that she didn't care since she is murderer. I tried to comfort her as I thought of how rude Asuka was to her.

Kat: Later on, Tsuzuki burned some midnight oil in the Gushoshin's library to learn more about Masaki. He discovered that Masaki and Asuka really looked alike. He was almost caught by Asuka as Tsuzuki tries to cover up what he is researching on.

Tsuzuki: In some restaurant, I talked with Asuka regarding Ayako. He told me that he remembers someone like her and it irritates him when someone else have saved another person's life and that person would so easily throw that life away. After I kicked Asuka in the fountain when he made that stupid comment, I told him that for Ayako, a world without Masaki is nothing to her so he should have understood her decision since he is a shinigami who have an attachment to the living world.

Kat: Asuka left to think things as Tsuzuki sneaked into an off limits archive to learn more about the case. The next day, Tsuzuki went to meet Ayako and made her unconscious as he prepares to do something.

Tsuzuki: And that something is to try to make Ayako drown in the river but Asuka tried to stop it by breaking the barrier. We fought about it as I

tried to tell him that I know who he is. I didn't get to finish since he blew me away into the river. *Sigh* I had to dry clean my clothes after that...so expensive. Asuka immediately went to Ayako while I was distracted and discovered that Ayako was just an illusion. hehehe You thought I'm bad, huh?

Unicorn: Bad? You should see Tatsumi sit on a pine cone :P

Tatsumi: THAT WAS YOU!!!! *Leaps at Unicorn, but Tsuzuki restrains him*

Kat: Well, since Tsuzuki haven't finished explaining, Asuka thought that he killed Ayako and tried to kill him. Just when Tsuzuki mentioned that he is really Masaki when the real Ayako appeared from the trees. Tsuzuki explained to Ayako that Masaki became a shinigami so that he could protect her and later on, changed his name so that he won't be discovered. Asuka admitted that he is indeed Masaki but he cannot be with her since he wanted to be a doctor before and now, he is a shinigami -- taking lives in order to live so even at with that price, he is willing to pay just to be with her.

Tsuzuki: Ayako comforted him as she thanked him for saving her. I then hit Masaki with a trial subpoena and told him to destroy it as I left the two who looked quite happy. Later on, Konoe told me that Ayako's name from the list is removed since she has regained her will to live and Masaki is studying in the living world as punishment for his resignation. Unfortunately, because of my antics, I didn't get a bonus. *Sniffs*

Kat: Now, now...Tsuzuki-san. Watari-san, can you be so nice to pull some of these desserts from this cookbook?

Watari: But of course, Kat-chan. ^-^ It is easy as pie. Let me draw it first.

Kat: *Sigh* it doesn't look quite appetizing.

Unicorn: Even with me giving him drawing lessons, he still cannot draw a circle ^.^;

Watari: It will be. *pulls out the desserts*

Kat: *after calling everyone else* Bon Appetit!!!

The next story is the Nagasaki Arc. I get to met Hisoka-kun for the fist time, yay! The characters that showed up are:

Kurosaki Hisoka:

Born Nov. 18, 1980 in Kanagawa. He is 168 cm (5' 5") tall. Tsuzuki's partner that enjoys reading. He is quick to anger and is emotionless for others. He has empathic ability to sense or take on emotions from others. His parents mistreated him because of his powers. But, he was trained in the marshal arts. Hisoka died when he was 16 and became a shinigami to find his murderer. Muraki was his murderer and left his curse mark on him when Hisoka was 13 to die a slow death after seeing Muraki killing someone.

Muraki Kazutaka:

Born on Dec. 4 1964 in Tokyo. He is 183 cm (6') tall. Muraki likes antique dolls and Tsuzuki. Dr. Muraki walks the fine line between genius and insanity. He uses magic with science and takes his victims' life energy to increase his own. The Dr. also has an artificial right eye.

Maria Wong:

A singer from China who committed suicide to escape her stepmother's cause of unhappiness. Her name did show in Chinese dead records, but her soul was missing.

Maria's stepmother:

Married into the family for the money and made Maria sing as way to make money. Hired Muraki to bring back Maria from the dead and went to Japan.

Watari Yutaka:

Born May 18, 1953 in Kyoto. He likes experimenting and researching. Watari is the friendly doctor and scientist. His shinigami talent is to give life to his drawings (bad stick figures tho). He also tries to make a potion that will change one's gender.

Suzaku:

The Phoenix one of Tsuzuki's 12 shikigami. She controls the element of fire and is guardian the South gate in Gensou Kai. Suzaku mothers Tsuzuki and he treats her like an older sister.

Tsuzuki: This case has changed my life. It is when I met Hisoka-kun, my lovable cute partner. *hugs Hisoka*

Hisoka: Get off me!!! *hits Tsuzuki with his book*

Tsuzuki: And, that evil doctor, Muraki who has been a pest ever since.

Muraki: *holds rose* My, my, Tsuzuki, my darling, How cruel of you to say such a thing.

Tsuzuki: *holds out a cross* Don't come near me, you vampire!!

*Unicorn drags out her wooden stake*

Muraki: *sweatdrops* I'm not that kind of vampire.

Kat: Ahem, let's start this already before we bore our readers. Konoe has just informed Tsuzuki about the increase of unnatural deaths in Nagasaki which he will investigate. Tsuzuki went with the younger Gushoshin as his new partner will meet with him later.

Tsuzuki: The younger Gushoshin told me about the booking on the hotel where we would stay while investigating the case. When suddenly, I sensed as if

someone was watching me but I shrugged it off in order not to alarm the younger Gushoshin.

Kat: The younger Gushoshin told Tsuzuki about the victims tend to lose lots of blood and has two punctured wounds on their necks so this case is called, The Dracula Case. Then....

Tsuzuki: There is this beautiful Chinese girl who bumped into me. Wow, she is pretty that I was a bit stunned for a minute there and her lips are quite red, also her skin is like...*Kat hits Tsuzuki's head* Ouch, okay, I would stick to the story. I felt something strange about her. She quickly ran off and so, I forgot about her for a moment since more urgent matters await, my stomach needs to be fed! But!! I was interrupted by a scream.

Kat: It turned out that there is a new victim of Dracula. Tsuzuki-san suddenly had a brain...*whacks* Ouch...okay, I won't make unnecessary comments. Tsuzuki suddenly thought that there is a connection between the girl he just bumped into and the victim so he gave chase.

Tsuzuki: Before I could catch her, I was immobilized by some kind of magic. I tried to find who it was but whoever did it already escaped. Then, a gun was pointed at me. It is a young rude boy who is staring really evilly at me and he is...ouch...ouch...stop pulling my ear!!!

Hisoka: I will continue this. I accused Tsuzuki that he is the Dracula. He tried to wiggle his way out of this but I'm not going to let him go so easily. He tried to think of a way out without showing his powers but good for him, the younger Gushoshin came to explain that he is my partner or else, I would have blown his head off.

Tsuzuki: Hisoka-kun is quite rude to me as I tried to know more about him. Sniff, even tricked me about the gun which I thought was real.

Hisoka: You're just so gullible.

Tsuzuki: I then learned that Hisoka died at sixteen because of some disease. As revenge for not informing me ahead about Hisoka and causing me with stress, I decided to eat lots of food. *drools* That dimsum, those buns, that dumpling...

Hisoka: Then, I learned that the partner whom I was assigned with is nothing but a useless and bottomless pit of a partner instead of someone who is a good worker. I was quite furious about it but then, those two arn't listening since they are quite busy fighting over the food. Just thinking about it makes me mad.

Kat: Now, now Hisoka-kun, relax and read a book. Tsuzuki brought a very drunk and knocked out Hisoka to the hotel where they were staying. Tsuzuki wondered why Hisoka wanted to work there and if there is a different reason than the one he gave. He thought that Hisoka's personality might hinder their relationship. The younger Gushoshin told him about the work he and his elder brother is doing regarding the newer cases.

Tsuzuki: The younger Gushoshin mentioned a new case regarding someone who was suppose to die off an illness but it was really because of a curse. When it was mentioned that it was classified, I then had a hunch and it was right, that someone is Hisoka-kun. I decided to keep this a secret for the meantime since Hisoka-kun is still young.

Kat: Instead of focusing back on the case, Tsuzuki decided to watch the television. Tsuzuki just saw an announcement about Maria Wong, a Hong Kong singer who is performing at a song festival. After raving about her beauty, Tsuzuki noticed something about her and asked the younger Gushoshin to research something.

Hisoka: I had a terrible hangover as Tsuzuki drags me to the TV studio. He explained to me about his theory of the vampire, the woman he saw yesterday, and Maria Wong being one. When we saw her, I felt as if she is just a puppet --- a body without a soul. Just when we are about to talk to her after this moron *looks at Tsuzuki* tried to get her autograph, we were caught by Maria's mother and got kicked out of the studio. We have decided to return to the office for the day.

Kat: Tsuzuki and Hisoka updated Konoe on the case then they went to the library to research about Maria Wong. Then, they discovered that Maria Wong has attempted suicide many times because of her stepmother's cruelty and finally, she succeeded last two weeks. The two were quite surprised since they just saw her alive so who is the one they saw?

Tsuzuki: *plays some creepy music to set the mood* Somewhere in the studio, Maria's mother told a man regarding two people who were asking Maria something. The man replied that she should not worry about it because he will handle it. The man told Maria to be a good girl and listen to what he says so that she would always be young and beautiful.

Muraki: Ah Nagasaki-ken...the exotic and romantic city where I first met him.....

Umm...Unicorn-san he is staring at me that way again.

*Unicorn shuffles on her knees and moves the wooden paper wall closed*

How rude. I did not do anything.

I putting you in the time out box for giving off bad energy into my home.

Nagasaki is located at the western extremity of Kyushu island in close proximity to China. It used to be just a tiny fishing village until it opened to foreign trade in 1571 by Japan's first Christian feudal lord Omura Sumitada who complied to the requests of Portuguese Jesuit missionaries and traders. Later on, it developed into the center of international trade and Christian evangelism in Japan. On August 9, 1945, one third of Nagasaki was destroyed by the atomic bomb however, the city miraculously recovered from the devastation. Ever since this tragic experience of the bombing, Nagasaki has devoted itself to the cause of world peace and the abolition of nuclear weapons. The major industries are fishing, shipbuilding and tourism.

The wooden church that Tsuzuki saw was the Oura Catholic Church. It is just below the Glover Garden and built between 1864 and 1865 in the Gothic style with beautiful stained-glass windows. Only foreigners may enter and there were no Christians beyond the area due to the ban of 1614 of the faith until 1872. The Glover Garden where Tsuzuki went to eat and wait for Hisoka was named after the entrepreneuring foreigner, Thomas Glover from the Meiji era, and it also contains Glover's Mansion (1863) and other houses with western influences.

In the anime, Muraki takes Tsuzuki to Nishizaka Hill where the 26 Martyrs Memorial of a metal and stone wall set up in 1962 with reliefs of the 26 Christians crucified in 1597. The Oura Church was also dedicated to the 26 martyrs. The museum they went to is by this memorial and displays the history of Christianity in Japan and in the area. If I am not mistaken at the very beginning of episode one, the anime also showed the Oranda-zaka (Dutch Slope).

Nagasaki's culture is a mixture of Portuguese, Dutch and Chinese which is well expressed in its famous dish, Chanpon which means a mixture of things. It is a Chinese noodle soup with vegetables, seafood, and meat. *drool* Another famous food here is the Castilla Cake or Kasutera which is said to be introduced by the Protuguese. It is made of flour, egg, sugar and gluten candy. The place to buy it is at Fukusaya. *runs off with Unicorn to buy some*

Tatsumi: Wait, Tsuzuki. Buy me some souvenirs! Ahem, some nice souvenirs from Nagasaki would be beedoro [glassware], Koga dolls [earthen dolls with bright colors] and turtle shell crafts.

The Dracula case takes on a new turn when the Juohcho of China reports that Miss Wong had been marked down as being dead for two months due to suicide.

Then I gave my wonderful speech on how we do our job and bring honor. But, I still got something thrown at me.

And who would listen to you in the first place? hehehe

Maybe, you should do what you say instead of eating all the time.

Well, we learned some Chinese folklore of Kyonshii. These vampire-like creatures move together on a killing rampage and consuming people. Hum, sounds like Anne Rice or Masquerade vampire stories. Only a person buried in rare yang earth becomes a Kyonshii. Now, they have to figure out the motives and who is the second person playing this twisted game.

Then Hisoka-kun left me and did not show up at our meeting place. I became soo depressed.

Baka, you were crying on your apple pies. It was too embarrassing to be seen with you.

And, you went over your food money allowance!

How mean! *Cries on Unicorn's shoulder*

Now, I make my stunning appearance when I helped a girl, who fainted, for Tsuzuki-kun and told him where I worked. (Heart)

*Unicorn and Tsuzuki hold on to each other, and said in unison* Eek! It is the Perverted Dude! *Both run around screaming*

*Hisoka throws his book at Tsuzuki, who falls on to Unicorn* Baka!

Great shot! I give it a 9.8.

A little later, Tsuzuki found me trying to break into the forbidden records. He got very angry and his emotion overpowered me. Then I told him about my empathic powers of synchronizing with people's emotions and strong thoughts. After that, we went on our separate ways.

The younger Gushoshin caught up with Tsuzuki and told him that Hisoka was from a noble family and would lock him up when his powers acted up. Tsuzuki now understood the reason for Hisoka's cold manner due to isolation from others. Since he was happy that he was not the problem, Tsuzuki goes off to eat some more. He later saw Miss Wong and made a plan. When night came, Tsuzuki sets the trap by pretending to be asleep on a park bench. Hisoka also followed him.

I cannot believe that the cleaning lady thought I was a drunk and Miss Wong partially undressed me!!

Duh, You consumed a big bottle of sake that evening, of course you smelled like a drunk!

Anyway, I used my fuda and broke the spell that was on her and comforted her when she felt guilty.

Maria told Tsuzuki that she only remembered was a face of demon laughing under a blood red moon. A red moon is a natural event. I have seen a few red moons that are quite beautiful to me. Tsuzuki confronted Maria's stepmother on who was manipulating Maria. But, the stepmother was too scared to tell. Tsuzuki went on an gut feeling and figured out that Dr. Muraki that whom he met was the one behind this. Then Maria ran in saying that the Dr. had captured Hisoka. Tsuzuki went out and found a bloody mess, and Muraki asked him how he liked it. Let me guess, Muraki, you are a big fan of the artist Jackson Pollock.

Ah yes, I adore his artwork and other abstract expressionists.

The last chapter, Tsuzuki and Maria blamed each other on Hisoka being captured by Muraki. Tsuzuki's spirit bird came back with the location of Hisoka. Maria persuaded Tsuzuki to take her with him. Tsuzuki how could you hit your head on the door from when you are shorter than me? *Tsuzuki blushes* Meanwhile, Muraki has Hisoka tied up Hisoka with women's hair. If I remember right, the hair from a murdered virgin that can hold a spirit.

Actually, I was using your beautiful long hair that I stole from your hairbrush. *Takes some of Unicorn's hair and hugs it* It is soo fine and strong. Your hair was just perfect for my needs.

0.o Eh? Tsuzuki-kun would you save my hair from this crazy guy! *Tsuzuki kicks Muraki off* I defiantly need to move. Ahem, Muraki grossly talked to Hisoka and did the bad guy way of telling what his plans were of getting supreme power from Tsuzuki.

Hai, I even reminded Hisoka-kun of our lovely evening when he was alive by a sakura tree under a red moon.

>.< >.< *Hisoka and Unicorn grab Muraki and tie him up in the other room.

This is not the right way to treat a guest!

*Unicorn duck tapes his mouth and Hisoka gives her the Hi-Five* Back to the story, Muraki explains his deadly process of killing Hisoka and bodily abusing him when Tsuzuki showed up. Muraki told him that he had gone mad because death took away some of his patients. Also Tsuzuki had no right to lecture him. Umm Muraki, were you not just lecturing Tsuzuki T-T. I wonder how he got his information on the inner workings of Meifu? Does he have Ouija board or crystal ball to get answers? Or, does Muraki gets information from someone in Meifu? Oh well. Meanwhile, Maria was freeing Hisoka and using Tsuzuki's barrier fuda as Muraki talked and fought with His power and creatures against Tsuzuki.

Then, Muraki attacked my friends and broke my fuda barrier and I used my body as a shield to protect them. I had major back pain for three days!

Why didn't you tell me? I would have massage your back!

Really?

Though it won't be cheap.

I knew it! Anyway, I became too weak to summon my shikigami and asked Hisoka to help me. We combined our powers and I called Suzaku-chan. We brought down the house with her, but I wish Nee-san did stop Muraki. Hisoka-kun and I returned and Maria was taken back to China. Chief scolded me and takes my summer bonus away for the minor setback of the building being burned a cinder. How cruel! But, my good friend Watari patched up my partner. I decided that Hisoka was fine partner after all, and he wanted to stay with me. I was soo happy and it overshadowed that I forgot to get the chief's Kasutera (honey cake).

The anime main differences were Tsuzuki first met Muraki in the Oura Catholic Church and later with the little girl. When Tsuzuki had the trap for Maria, Muraki used his magic to hold Tsuzuki down for Maria, but Hisoka broke the magic spell. Muraki took Hisoka when he mentally called Hisoka as Maria sang her last song and Maria did not come with Tsuzuki to save Hisoka. Later, Muraki called Tsuzuki on a date while Tsuzuki had Maria's stepmother's cell phone.

Tat: Hey! You went over your food money allowance AGAIN!!!

Hey, Kat is selling some apple pies. They are almost sold out!

Don't change the topic!!

Huh, what is it?

*pops a vein* I'm saying that you went over your food allowance!!

He wasn't listening, you should cut further cut his food allowance.

Eh.....you two are so mean!!! *runs off crying*

We haven't finish talking yet! Come back here!

*shouts at the top of her voice* Yo! Tsuzuki-san, there is still one apple pie left that I haven't sold!

*rushes back* Give me! Give me!

How pathetic.

*Tats continues to lecture while Tsuzuki is eating*
