"There is great debate among the Franklin Family as to where this line came from.  1) Was it a branch of the great states men Ben Franklin from his brother.  2)  Was it part of another line of Franklin's that came to Virginia from England after the Revolutionary War.   3) Was it the Franklin's that first settled in Maryland then moved to Virginia? 4) Are these Franklin's part of the Tennessee Franklin's.  This author leans toward the later.  My reason is simple and unproved.  In my search the name of Jesse Franklin drops off and can not be found again unless you  go into Tennessee.   Like with my "Richard Gammon's" there is a Jesse in each Generation.   Ok this maybe to simple if you have a thought please share it with us!"

Be advised that the dates are not right for this Jesse Franklin but I have found a Jesse Franklin in Bedford Co. TN - Listed in the The Democratic Clarion & Tennessee Gazette Published by Thomas G. Bedford. No date Vol. III, No. CV Taxes remaining due for 1809 - shows a Jesse Franklin with 1000 Acres Situation Elk River double taxes due. 4) Same Jesse Franklin in item 2 above is again listed for Delinquent taxes Bedford Co1, Ran. 3

The 1870 Census also shows: Fred Franklin 30; Martha B. or S 34; Robert H. 2; Samuel D. 6 months.7

Shown on the 1860 census - he is shown at age 8? this would make his birth year 1852 not the birth year as found in my research notes - The family bible show his DOB as 03/02/1849; Died 03/02(23)/1944 and married MariEtta Gowin 05/11/1874, the bible is with Wesley. Shown on 1870 census age 17 7 The bible belonged to Mary E. Goins in the bible she did not spell her name as one word. Mary E. was nicknamed Metna by her Grandpa.7

History:

Before his death he acquired 400-600 acres of land along "Fishpond Creek" near Vera Virginia. He deeded 200 acres and a white frame house to the Wife his son Abdalh B. #1306; and her children sometime in the 1930's. This house was later sold to a great nephew Berkley Brown #1346 by Ella Gobble Franklin.

In the late 1930's Jesse sold his remaining farm land to the State to become part of the "Appomattox-Buckingham State Park. The Franklin Family Cemetery is located there but the House Jesse #1304 and Mary Etta #1305 lived in most of their lives burned down. Berkley Brown #1346 states that Abdalh #1306 bought some of the land from the "Old Tom Harvey" place and put up a cabin where the three of them lived until Jesse's death in 1947.

Jesse is buried in the old family cemetery along with his wife, his son Jesse Helium #1338; two of Abdalh #1306 children. LuEtta #1308 never married and produced no off-spring. She is buried in the Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery. She died 1961. Abdalh #1306 is buried in the Beasley Family Cemetery. He died 10/12/1949.

(My Grandfather with local other family members found the grave sites this past spring (1998).  They cleaned up the plot and my grandfather has plans for new marks)

History:

Rosen left home at an early age to follow his brother Abraham #1337 to West Virgnia after the death of his mother at age 14. He worked in timbering, mining and other related jobs and building of the railroad lines.

Physically he was a strong handsome man about 6'1 with black hair and blue eyes. Audra Brown #1380 was quoted as saying often "She never had a son as handsome as his father". Rosen liked good clothes and was stylish. Per his daughter Agatha #1277 writes- "Rosen often short tempered and more difficult to live with. Although there were conflicts these were seldom exhibited before the children"7 After his marriage they moved to Appomattox to live with Rosen's father Jesse II #1304, a widower.

After the birth of their son James Arthur the family moved to West Virginia along the Little Kanawha river and later in the Stouts Mill area, alond side Audra's parents. Later they purchased a farm from Audra's parents. They built a house and farmed until 1922 until they moved to Webster Springs WVA, where Rosen worked in the coal mines.

Rosen was injuried in a mine accident.  In 1942 Audra and Rosen moved to Washington DC and purchased a rooming house.
