History:
John J. Brown (Sr.) migrated from Cumberland County Pa to Moorefield, Hardy Co., WV in the spring of 1769 with early settlers Pringle, Jackson, Sleeth, Hacker, Hughs and Radcliff; he explored what later became Broad Run in Lewis County. He returned around 1781 to settle there (White Oak Flat) and to build Fort Mongue aka Fort Mung or Brown's Fort to protect settlers from Indian raids. Capt. Cornelius Bogard (Bogardus) was a frequent visitor (settled in Randolph and served in Rev. War) and may have been a relative. Brown took out a patent on 1,000 acres of land including Broad Run. Brown deeded land for Broad Run Baptist Church.

Rosen left home at an early age to follow his brother Abraham #1337 to West Virgnia after the death of his mother at age 14. He worked in timbering, mining and other related jobs and building of the railroad lines.
Physically he was a strong handsome man about 6'1 with black hair and blue eyes. Audra Brown #1380 was quoted as saying often "She never had a son as handsome as his father. After his marriage, they moved to Appomattox to live with Rosen's father Jesse II #1304, a widower.
After the birth of their son, James Arthur the family moved to West Virginia along the Little Kanawha River and later in the Stouts Mill area, along side Audra's parents. Later they purchased a farm from Audra's parents. They built a house and farmed until 1922 until they moved to Webster Springs W.Va., where Rosen worked in the coalmines.
Rosen was injured in a mine accident.   In 1942 Audra and Rosen moved to Washington DC and purchased a rooming house. They lived here until after W.W.II. Audra worked for the Hecht Company and then a temporary job with the Federal Gov't in their Army Heraldic Section. Rosen worked as a night watchman in the H.L. Rust Building in Washington DC. After W.W.II, they bought a house in Hyattsville MD, which Audra still owned at the time of her death 4/16/1963.7
