Henderson Field

Henderson Field
Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands
November 15, 1943
NOTE: American Army Air Force and Navy B-24/PB4Y-1 (Liberators) operated from Carney Field which was constructed on a large grass covered, marshy field located about 5 miles east of Henderson Field. Soon after the war was over, Carney Field was forgotten and promptly returned to its natural state.
Henderson Field, meanwhile, assumed the designation of Henderson Airport serving the capital Honiara, of the newly independent (1978) sovereign republic, Solomon Islands.
