Cowboys upset Briggs 4-3

The West high school soccer team upset then second place Briggs, with a 4-3 victory over their arch-rival host, and finished second place (4-1-1) in the City South division final standing, behind Walnut Ridge (5-1). West striker Mustaf Hagi scored 2 goals as bruins fell to third place in the City South.

"This win may be personal to me, but give our kids the credit they deserved." said first year head coach Dan Lee. "We have gone through adversity all season and never quit, to come here and steal a win and a runner-up finish is incredible, it just showed how much characters this team has." The bruins only needed a tie to secure a second place going into the game.

Fullback Woodthar Var opened the score for west with a rebound missed by Hagi's penalty kick (10:30). Briggs midfielder Chris Biggler scored 2 goals in the first half to lead the majority of the first half, including a penalty kick. Hagi tied the score with 2 minutes remaining before halftime.

The seasaw battle continued at the second half, Briggs defender Aaron Brill scored a header from corner kick (58:00). It seemed like the game would settle for a tie with 10 minutes left, Biggler was called foul at the penalty box and gave the cowboys a penalty shot once again. Midfielder Mohamed Noor broke off the tie and the cowboys went on with a 4-3 victory over the arch-rival.
