SENIOR ARMY COMMANDERS IN PANAMA 

(1914-1999)

From 1914 until November 1947, the senior military commander in Panama also served as the senior Army commander.  On November 15, 1947, the senior Army command in Panama was split from the geographic/theater command and moved from Quarry Heights to Fort Amador.  (Click here for details on senior commanders 1914-1947.)  In September 1979, the senior Army command in Panama moved from Fort Amador to Fort Clayton

Quarry Heights -- Headquarters of the senior U.S. military in Panama from 1914-1997 --  from the Panama Canal Department through the U.S. Southern Command, until September 1997 when the Southern Command Headquarters moved to Miami, Florida.
