Solo former Naval base
(on the Atlantic side near the city of
Colon)
| Piers 1 through 4, adjacent
wharf, and a few buildings in Coco Solo North transferred to
Panama. Housing area remained with the Panama Canal
Commission, and the Elementary School remained with U.S.
Forces as a Military Area of Coordination until 1990s.

South transferred to Panama. Housing area and Coco Solo
Junior-Senior High School remained with U.S. Forces until

Manzanillo International
Terminal (MIT) (above), a joint venture between Stevedoring Services
of America, of Seattle, and Panama's Motores Internacionales SA,
and one of three ports now on Panama's Atlantic side, was
constructed in the mid-1990s on part of former Coco Solo Naval

| Nearby open area (near the
hangars and across from Bldg. 1025, former AAFES shoppette)
was used 1996-99 as temporary bus terminal for travel to
interior parts of the country (which moved to the new National
Transport Center adjacent to the Marcos Gilabert airport at Albrook).
