Members
of Cumbernauld Youth Theatre present their vision of a post-apocalyptic
battle of the sexes at the theatre next week. “20/20 a Vision” runs at
the theatre from October 25 to 27. Youth
Theatre members Tony Keirnan, Michael Ahearn and Michael Leonard wrote the
play from an original idea by Tony Keirnan. Set in the future, the
action takes place in a world where there is nothing left to fight for.
Utopia has been achieved on earth.
But the balance is destroyed by the arrival of Kylie, who sets up her
own faction in the belief of the superiority of women over men. Among the other citizens of
this bizarre future world are the Marx brothers, who have a penchant for
rearranging peoples knees with a power drill. This plot strand posed a few
problems as Tony Keirnan relates: “We
can’t have stage blood, because it’s too hard to clean up.
So I suppose we’ll have to fill a few bags up with tomato
sauce…” Tony describes the show as a
musical comedy with Overtones of Greek tragedy. |
