There are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of publications and books that relate to the subject of self
sufficiency and self reliance, these are just a few that I am familiar with or have heard things about.
An excellent magazine!! Lots of useful info. However this is oriented somewhat towards those interested in realistic historical re-creation (buckskinning, civil war, etc.) and "older" technology (black powder firearms, primitive living technologies, etc.
BACKWOODS HOME MAGAZINE
Also an excellent magazine. It has been said that this magazine is most like the old Mother Earth News. Lots of informative and practical information. Get a subscription. Better yet, get the anthology books.
THE FOXFIRE BOOKS
This is a seried of nine books (at least nine is all I know of). It started out as an English teacher's project to get students interested in writing and went on to become hugely successful. Lots of hard to find info about "older" methods of living. How to build things like log cabins, wagons, make soap, do laundry, make flintlock rifles, and much more. I don't know if they are all still in print, but if you can find them, they are well worth purchasing. They can be purchased from AMAZON, also a great source for other self sufficiency books, including ones out of print. They got me a copy of a book on home made wood stoves by Ole Wik, took three months, but was worth it.
THE MCALVANY INTELLIGENCE ADVISOR
An interesting publication dealing with world conditions and how to prepare for difficult times ahead. Also, look for internet broadcasts from Don on audiocentral.com.
THE MOTHER EARTH NEWS
This publication is not what it once was, since it went mainstream, it has lost much of it's usefulness, but occasionally there is still an article worth reading.
THE UNOFFICIAL TIGHTWAD GAZETTE FAN CLUB HOME PAGE
This is a page dedicated to the work of Amy Dacyczyn (last name pronounced "decision". Amy started a newsletter (no longer published) about various ways to save money. The best of the newsletters have been compiled into three books. Lotsa good stuff. Save yourself a bundle. Gives you some weapons to use in the fight against corporate greed!
