Lessons

bamboo fly rods

The class is designed to show people how they can build a Bamboo Fly Rod at home. It will also show them the tools required and the problems encountered in the process of building a Bamboo Fly Rod. The entire process will allow them to decide if they wish to continue with the craft as a hobby. They will also have a fine Bamboo Fly Rod that they built with their own hands.

During the class we will also learn how to sharpen blades, temper the bamboo, evaluate the bamboo's quality, and other items that have been learned by years of trial and error. Six weeks before the start of the class, all students will receive a questionare on the details of the rod they wish to build. They will also receive a map of the Portland, Maine area with listings of motels, major attractions, and area phone numbers. The classes will be held in the workroom of the American Legion Hall in Falmouth , the northern suburb of Portland, Maine.
