Plugins are the small programs that Netscape Navigator uses to translate and view different types of files on web pages.  Netscape comes with a variety of plugins already installed: if this page has loaded correctly you're currently using a jpg viewer for this background, a separate gif viewer for the gif wizard box above, and if you're listening to the music you're hearing it through a midi plugin.  Everyone's going to have a different list of plugins, depending on what they want to see or do on the internet, and because there are literally hundreds of different plugins I'm not going to try to list and update even the ones that I use (well... except for RealAudio (under Music) and a few others).  To browse or find a specific plugin, click here:Plugins for Netscape Navigator

If you have a web site that you want linked up and added to search engines, just click one of these buttons.  In the process of submitting your site to these, you'll find links to other free site submission programs (see the ROBO Submit's links page for many).

Javascript is the programming language in which 'applets' are written:  little things like animation and sound players, interactive things like 3-d graphing and modeling, password protection, web polls and counters.  This stuff is arguably the best thing on the internet.  Many online chats are written and run in javascript.  But you don't need to know the language to use it or even put it on your page.  There are hundreds of javascript scripts available for free (you have to do is give them your e-mail address and they send you your password) below.  To put one on your page, all you have to do is copy the text they give you onto your page, and you're done!  You don't have to have your own web page to use the scripts: there are hundreds of games, music, and animations that are fun to browse through, as well as web security and online tracker programs that may open your eyes to some of the hidden workings (and dangers) of the web.  Click the blue banner below to sign up and look at the web's best free java, sorted by type, business and personal polls, or number of downloads.

Shockwave is used for animation and entertainment all over the world wide web.  Shockwave is used in interactive animation from online arcades (Wak-a-Mole!  Whack your boss and the Spice Girls!) to online music 'pubs', virtual cities and museums, and 3d chat worlds.  Download the Shockwave plugin from http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download, or find out more and surf the top rated Shockwave sites at http://www.macromedia.com/shockzone.

If you like hearing background music on the web, get Crescendo, the best midi player, available from liveupdate.com.  This plugin allows you to play, stop, fast forward and reverse midi files instantaneously, and it supports streaming, so on some sites you can hear the music as it downloads.  Hopefully, you should be able to listen to my music (in the frame on the left) with any midi player, but the Crescendo plug-in is the best and fastest.

This is what the plugin

looks like on web pages:
