You are using

It seems a bit stupid to have this browsers section, since you're already using  to read this, but here it is in case you're using something else:  links and guides to the two most widely used internet browsers in the world.  Having used both, I believe that Netscape Navigator is superior to Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE).  This is due to 1) People go through alot of work trying to uninstall MSIE from Windows, and I haven't heard of anyone frantically trying to remove Netscape unsuccessfully.  2) MSIE crashes more frequently than Netscape.  This is due to 3) Microsoft products are designed to work against Microsoft's competitors, and since a browser is just an all-purpose viewer, MSIE purposely won't run correctly with some of Microsoft's competitors' products, such as java and RealAudio.  If you're not using Netscape I encourage you to switch (get help uninstalling MSIE here, read why it sucks here), but a lot of people stick with MSIE because it comes installed and is hard to uninstall.  Only get it if you like helping Microsoft take over its competitors at the expense of inferior quality and security.  Both from www.Pacifier.com:

Netscape Navigator & Tips

While both Netscape Navigator and MSIE are fine for web browsing, if you're going to be uploading or downloading a lot of files you'll want to use an FTP (file transfer protocol) program.  The best of these is CuteFTP.  CuteFTP is a lot faster than a web browser, extremely simple to use, and comes with an addressbook of the most commonly used ftp servers.  CuteFTP can browse servers, login anonymously, with a password, or double login, and download, upload and view files.  Download Cute FTP for free from http://www.cuteftp.com (e-mail address required).

While it's not a browser, StayConnected fit in better here than under Applications.  StayConnected is a small program designed to keep your ISP from disconnecting you due to inactivity.  This may be due to  bad connection, long file download, or simple inactivity.  StayConnected can be set up to use HTTP, Echo, Discard, FTP, Telnet, SMTP, and Time Server protocols (runs fastest with just http or ftp), and has the option of keeping a specified port connection open (such as #110 for a POP3 e-mail server or 6667 for IRC Chats).  Download StayConnected at http://www.inklineglobal.com/download/sc/index.html.

Stay Connected! for Windows 95/NT

I've sinced collected many to simpler packet-manipulating tools, some of which I programmed myself when there wasn't anything available.  Because many of these programs can be misused, I'm not putting them up here.  However, it seems that I use the TJ PingPro constantly, which is a ping utility (like StayConnected above).  TJ PingPro is more useful for looking up and cataloging IP addresses.  Download it and view a screenshot at http://filedudes.ionsys.com/win95/pingapp/tjpro.html.
