Dear Eleanor:
I’m  a  professional  writer.  When I meet peo-
ple,  they often ask what my job is;  and  I  an-
swer truthfully.   However,  on  hearing  that  I
am a writer,  they ask what I write about.   The
problem is,  I write for an  e-list  web  site  that
                            publishes
mostly thinly sourced  celebrity  trash
stories.  I doubt that I'll ever win a Pulitzer,  but
it pays the bills. Is there a polite way to say that
                            I'm basically a yellow-journalist hack?

                                                                            Shameful Job
Dear Shamer:
No.  Just tell 'em you're a journalist.  If they ask
you if you write porn, you can deny it.

Remember, if you don't want to receive any more of this inane crap,
just hit your "Reply" button and type in the subject line, "GET THESE

exactly as it appears above €“ without quotation marks, and without
that redundant "Re: " that appears in so many subject lines €“ or you
will keep getting this shit!  ("Cut and paste" won't work, either.  We

Most people don't know this, and I'm so happy
I can enlighten you.

The band Jefferson Airplane was named after
the aircraft that Thomas Jefferson flew in the
Revolutionary War  –  and Jefferson Starship
was the craft he later flew in the first   Space
Force.

Archaeologists are just now beginning to un-
cover  the  extensive runway  at  Monticello,
which appears to be of a very advanced form
of construction for its day.

People   have  always wrongly subscribed to
the  "fake  news"  that a "Jefferson Airplane"
was actually a joint in a makeshift roach clip
fabricated from a cardboard match.

Quotations of the week:

In June of 1775 the Continental Congress created a unified army out of

the revolutionary forces encamped around Boston  and New York  and

named after the great George Washington,  commander in chief.    The

Continental Army suffered a bitter winter of Valley Forge,  found glory

across the waters of the Delaware and seized victory  from  Cornwallis

of Yorktown.  Our army manned the . . . ramparts,  it took over the air-

The sports:
It was hard to tell whom you were rooting for  in the Wimbledon
semifinals tennis match between Simona Halep of Romania  and
Elita Svitolina of the Ukraine.   They look exactly alike.     Halep
won 6-1, 6-3, and went on to beat Serena Williams in the final, 6-
2, 6-2.   The American Williams beat Barbora Strýcová,  a Czech,
6-1, 6-2,  in the semis, but lost her bid for a 24th grand slam tour-
nament victory to tie her with Margaret
Smith Court. . . .

I am a 54-year-old single woman who be-
gan dating again  after four years of absti-
nence.  My two adult daughters,  aged 18
and 22, live with me. But I am smitten, to
say  the  least,  with an attractive, support-
ive and very loving man.    I have invited
him over and introduced him to the girls,
which  went  well  until  the  other  night
when my 22-year-old overheard us being
intimate   (her bedroom  is next to mine).
There was no screaming or anything sim-
ilarly lewd, but I have a rather noisy bed.

                            The  daughter
now  refuses  to  sleep  in  her
room and sent me a text telling me she wants
to live with her dad because she thinks it's dis-
gusting.  I'm not sure how to feel.  On the one
hand, I think she needs to grow up;  but at the
same  time  I don't want to be the cause of her
                            discomfort.

I explained to her that I'm happy after being a-
lone for so long and perhaps she could be hap-
py for me.  My partner thinks she’s jealous of
our new relationship.   The 18-year-old could-
                            n’t care less.

                            Am I behaving inappropriately? Don’t I have
just as much right to enjoy my home as they?

Getting Back to it in New York

Dear Backie:
Maybe it's time for her to live with her father.
Or get out on her own, at age 22.

And what's with this "texting"?  The two of
you don't talk?  You got problems, all right.

Or, maybe, just some 3-in-1 Oil for the bed-
                            springs.
