"Peduncle" is a real word, defined in most dictionaries as "a stalk-Quotation of the week:
like structure, esp. a large bundle of nerve fibers within the brain."
But in our youth it meant an automobile on the highway at night
with only one headlight burning: If the girl of a couple saw it first,
she would yell "Popeye!" or "Peduncle!" and thereby earn the right
to slap the boy. If the boy saw it first, he could yell "Padiddle!" and
have the right to kiss the girl. "Padiddle" is not in most dictionaries,
but Wikipedia has an entry on "padiddle" referring to the boy-girl
game and also to "popeye," but not to "peduncle." (The Urban Dic-
tionary, by the way, defines "peduncle" as "your uncle that molested
you as a child.") .
