According to Breen, the early die state has the '8' repunched.
This fades, and the late die state has the logotype with thinner
numerals. Makes you wonder whether other 'heavy' and 'thin'
numeral varieties were due to relapping on the same die.
Douglas Winter states in his book that this is the most common
No Motto New Orleans eagle in higher grades, despite the
low mintage. However, I think the 1847-O eagle is more common.
