WATCHING OUR WAY
Why do I keep sinning and how do I stop? Can I lose my salvation?
Rom 7:14-25
14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave
to sin.
15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but
what I hate I do.
16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.
17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.
18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For
I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.
19 For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want
to do-- this I keep on doing.
20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it
is sin living in me that does it.
21 So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there
with me.
22 For in my inner being I delight in God's law;
23 but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war
against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at
work within my members.
24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of
death?
25 Thanks be to God-- through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself
in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the
law of sin.
James 1:13-18
13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God
cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged
away and enticed.
15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it
is full-grown, gives birth to death.
16 Don't be deceived, my dear brothers.
17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the
Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be
a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
2 Cor 10:3-5
3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world
does.
4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the
contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up
against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it
obedient to Christ.
Col 3:1-10
1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on
things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with
him in glory.
5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:
sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.
7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.
8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger,
rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with
its practices
10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
John 10:27-30
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can
snatch them out of my hand.
29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can
snatch them out of my Father's hand.
30 I and the Father are one."
