The Blackberry Patch

This page is always under construction, just like my projects !
On this page you will find
my dollhouses and projects, furniture I have made, tips, and links
to my favorite dollhouse sites

This page is dedicated to
Mary Ann Sloan of Naples, Fl.
She let me borrow a book  on dollhouses and miniatures,
in 1995.  This captured my interest so, that
I have been making miniatures every since!

A Little About Me
Hi, I am Anita. I live in Coconut Grove, Miami, Fl.
No, I do not speak Spanish! I have several hobbies, all of which I am
mediocre at!  They include Dollhouses, sewing costumes for SCA, and
painting with acrylics and watercolors.  I work for Lloyds TSB Bank plc as
a systems analyst on an IBM AS/400.  I am originally from Whitmire, SC.
My husband, Ed, is from Hawthorne, Wi.  He is an assistant director
of engineering at Hyatt Hotels, currently dividing his time between the
Hyatt in downtown Miami, and the new Hyatt in Gros Islet, St. Lucia in
the Caribbean.  We have been married almost 6 wonderful years.
I have a daughter, Alexis, who lives in Ft. Myers, Fl.  She has 2 wonderful
daughters, Kyrie, and Brianna.

As a child...
I never had a dollhouse when I was small, but played with a friend's, an old metal one
with plastic furniture. This house belonged to Beth Duckett, when she was small,
and her mother, Inez, always let me play with it when I was visiting.

My First Project
My first project was the Greenleaf Canterbury.  I bought this at Ben Franklin's in Naples, Fl. for around $25, don't know why it was on sale!
My knowledge of scale was very limited, so some of the furnishings look a little
strange! Ed helped with the sanding and fitting together of the basic house.
He and our friend, Richard Clayton, wired the house for lights.  I made
the window casements, and porch trim.

The Canterbury

Here she is all decked out for Christmas!
The wreathes are made from Sculptey clay.  Trees in foreground are those
found in craft shops for Christmas villages, the ones on the side
are those for model railroads, coated with painted snow.  The snowman
is my own creation, made from cotton balls, the carrot nose is a painted end
of a toothpick.  On the porch, Very hard to see, are my handmade wrapped presents, and a nutcracker, and rocking horse that are miniature tree ornaments.  The chairs came from the gift shop at Vizcaya House and Gardens here in Miami. On the sidewalk is a tiny train.  The street lights are for Christmas villages, as are the lights on the house.
Inside the house is a lighted tree, though the camera did not pick it up.
The Mustang is my husband's, who is an avid fan of this car!
The wreath was hanging on the door until my granddaughters visited!

Visit the Canterbury!

Please don't laugh too hard, as this was my first feeble attempt!

Peg-Leg Jack's Retirement
This was made entirely by me except for the little ship in the window - a gift
from my daughter.  After years of terrorizing the seas, the old pirate has retired.
Sadly, his treasure box is nearly empty, but he still has his trusty parrot, and
his cat napping by the stove.  Peg-Leg Jack himself is currently upstairs in a box,
patiently awaiting my enthusiasm for finishing him!  The shack itself is made from
balsa, the roof from cardboard.  The stove is from a cigarette box, cut in half, with
buttons and beads, and a drinking straw for a stovepipe. The lantern is a bent earring,
and the cat and parrot are made from Sculptey clay.

The Pierce

This is what the Pierce will look like one day, hopefully! though not this color.
This is actually the Annabelle, the only difference being the underpinning is stone
on this picture, (see arrow) and the Pierce has lattice work.
A brief history....
When I built the Canterbury,my granddaughter, Kyrie, was so enraptured by it,
that her parents bought the Buttercup, I think it was.
Of course, after it was completed, Kyrie redecorated by removing the windows, and other features of the house!  Her parents then bought the Greenleaf Pierce.  They spent alot of time on it, papering and molding, but did not finish it.  They offered it to me, and of course, I took it!  I have put in some of the flooring on the bottom floor, and am
putting in new wallpaper.  The ceiling tiles just came in so I can start putting up
the walls!

The Pierce Construction Site

 Well, so far!
Here is the bottom floor.  Left is the kitchen, then dining room, entry way,
then livingroom in the foreground.  The kitchen is scored to look like old planks,
then stained cherry.  The dining room and tower floor are red oak planking.  The
entry way is green and black marble (look) tile, the living room is awaiting carpet.

I got the Carpet!!!

I am attempting to carpet the stairs, am awaiting more paperclips to hold the carpet in place while the glue dries.

The stairs are done!  This took about 5 days!

Furniture I Have Made
I made all of the items in the Canterbury except the cat, dog, and pull-toy bunny.
Here are some bookcases I found at Pearl for 75 cents each....Plain wood.
I Painted them

Of course these will go to Kyrie and Brianna,
hence the K and B painted on them
