He married Janette R. Colby in Fairfax, Vermont, 13 Jan 1847. Janette was born in Of, Fairfax, Vermont Abt 1827.

Merritt Chase Shepardson and Janette R. Colby had the following children:

1986 i. Nettie¹⁰ Shepardson was born in Of, Fairfax, Vermont Abt 1849.

1987 ii. James Shepardson was born in Of, Fairfax, Vermont 1847. James died Abt 1870.

1988 iii. William B. Shepardson was born in Of, Fairfax, Vermont Dec 1849. William died Abt 1872.
