Brainstorming Activity. . .The Opener

Often on the daily news such as CNN, we hear news stories about areas in the Middle East. Some stories spawn positive thoughts, while others not so positive.

In this activity, separate into groups of 3 (three) students. One student as the reporter, record the thoughts of the group on the attitudes and ideas in response to the Middle East region based on the following questions.

  1. What are some images that come to mind of the Arab culture?
  2. Is the Middle East somewhere where you like to visit or live, why or why not?
  3. list some things you do know about the Middle East?

Now each group shares their notes with the entire class. The reporter of each group is responsible for recording the other groups' similar and dissimilar thoughts.

Now that we've discussed what our preconceived ideas are about the Middle East and the Arab Culture, we are ready to move forward in our quest to expand our Global Perspective
