The mission of the Litigation Practice at Mannion & Copani is to insure the prompt, successful, and cost effective disposition of matters requiring litigation.  Providing superior representation of our clients' interests requires not only the successful resolution of disputes, but also a high degree of client contact and consultation during the course of legal proceedings.  Our litigation attorneys have a broad base of trial experience and provide high quality services in diverse areas of practice.  Our firm's attorneys, paralegals, case managers, and support staff are dedicated to meeting our clients' litigation goals capably, professionally, and efficiently.  Recognizing the unique needs of each client, we strive to match the varied talents and experience of our attorneys and staff to each case to achieve an economical and successful resolution.
 

Personal Injury Claims.   We represent clients in all areas of personal injury litigation, including actions for damages sustained in motor vehicle and motorcycle accidents, premises liability claims, and public liability claims. Our attorneys are experienced in prosecuting and defending all claims involving serious personal injury, catastrophic loss, and wrongful death.  Members of our Litigation Practice have successfully prosecuted personal injury actions resulting in awards in excess of $ 1,000,000.00 and have successfully defended actions involving claims of severe personal injuries..

Products Liability Claims.   Our firm's Litigation Practice routinely assists clients injured by dangerous or defective products, equipment, or machinery.  In effectively handling product liability claims we seek to supplement our own legal proficiency by associating with leading experts in disciplines specific to the facts of each case.

Medical and Professional Malpractice Claims.   Mannion & Copani regularly handles claims involving professional negligence, including actions for medical and dental malpractice and malpractice committed by attorneys, accountants and other professionals.  We maintain associations with experts in numerous professions to provide us with invaluable assistance in the evaluation, support, and litigation of professional negligence claims.

Contractual Litigation.   We represent our clients' interests arising under commercial and personal contract, always striving to secure the maximum benefit due in accordance with the language and intent of the agreement.  In serving our clients we seek not only to promote our clients' rights, but also to be cognizant of tax and business consequences incidental to our efforts.  Our Litigation Practice handles actions arising from real estate, business, industrial, and personal transactions.

Commercial Litigation.   Our Litigation Practice represents businesses and corporations in all matters related to their commercial interests.  In addition to contractual drafting, interpretation and litigation, Mannion & Copani prosecutes and defends diverse actions on behalf of our business clients.  Our attorneys have successfully handled actions on behalf of our clients in defense of tort and workers' compensation claims, unfair competition, and intentional interference with business activities.  We have cost effectively prosecuted and defended claims for corporations and business owners which are necessary to the promote the individual needs and goals of their business.

Governmental Litigation.   Our Litigation Practice has successfully represented individuals and businesses in actions against local, state, and federal governmental entities.  We regularly prosecute actions involving land use and condemnation.  Our Litigation Practice is experienced in proceedings in the nature of mandamus and prohibition under Article 78 of the Civil Practice Law and Rules.

Criminal Proceedings.   Mannion & Copani regularly represents clients in state and federal criminal prosecutions in all courts.  Our attorneys have successfully defended individuals charged with serious felony charges, as well as misdemeanor offenses, D.W.I., and minor traffic matters.  Our attorneys have secured dismissal of criminal charges ranging from minor offenses to A-1 felony charges.

Appellate Practice.   As a complement to our Litigation Practice, our attorneys are equipped to represent our clients before all appellate courts in New York.  Our firm has effectively  represented clients both as appellants and respondents before United States and New York State appellate courts, tribunals and agencies.  Attorneys in our Litigation Practice are licensed to practice before all appellate courts within our jurisdiction, including the United States Supreme Court.
 

Biographical Information

Anthony F. Copani  is a partner in Mannion & Copani's Litigation Practice.  Mr. Copani represents clients in complex civil litigation.  Mr. Copani has successfully handled multi-party actions in state and federal courts, including claims of civil rights violations, unfair labor practices, commercial transactions, personal injury litigation, and other claims on behalf of individuals and businesses.  Mr. Copani is licensed to practice in all Courts of the State of New York as well as the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York.

Mr. Copani is a former Deputy County Attorney for the Onondaga County Department of Law and the Onondaga County Department of Social Services, reporting directly to the Onondaga County Attorney and the Commissioner of Social Services.  He successfully represented the County's interests in hundreds of matters in various areas of practice.  Mr. Copani represented Onondaga County in actions in which the County was self-insured as well as acting as co-counsel with attorneys for insurance carriers in actions in which the County was insured.

A founding partner of Mannion & Copani, Mr. Copani's extensive governmental experience has been supplemented by an active and diverse private practice.  Mr. Copani has won verdicts, both jury and non-jury, on behalf of his clients.  He often successfully concludes litigation through motion practice thereby avoiding the expense of trial.  He has successfully litigated matters in areas of practice as diverse as complex federal litigation to general tort actions and contract litigation.

Mr. Copani's trial proficiency is complemented by an active appellate practice.  Mr. Copani has undertaken appeals as both appellant and respondent, when required to protect his clients' interests.  He has perfected appeals, drafted appellate briefs and motions, and personally argued appeals in the Appellate Division of New York State Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.

Mr. Copani is named in Who's Who in American Law (1990-91) and was named One of the Outstanding Young Men in America in 1987.  He is a member of the Board of Directors of Just for Babies, Inc., and serves as its legal counsel.  He also is a member of the Board of Directors of the Upstate New York SIDS Foundation (Local Chapter).

Laurie C. Oliver is an associate attorney with Mannion & Copani concentrating in residential and commercial real estate transactions, business law and corporations, and land use, zoning and development law.  Ms. Oliver received a B.A. degree in political science from State University of New York at Cortland and is an honors graduate of Syracuse University College of Law.  Ms. Oliver has effectively represented clients before all levels of New York State trial courts and has prosecuted appeals on behalf of individual and business clients.

Frank A. Bersani, Jr., Esq. brings another twenty years of litigation experience to the firm on a contract basis providing additional depth and assistance on litigation matters handled by Mannion & Copani.
