      Beating the breakers

Based on the Outward Bound system established in Britain, the Outdoor Education Syllabus at Woodridge begins in standard 4 (6th school year) with short hikes to nearby beauty spots. As pupils move through the standards the program they follow covers a diverse array of outdoor activities, including camping, compass pacing, orienteering, canoeing, rock climbing and mountain rescue. In addition surf lifesaving, sailing and horse riding are offered as voluntary activities.

Outdoor Education is compulsory for all pupils, yet the activities do not cut across the academic programme nor do they replace traditional school sports. This inevitably leads to a full extra-curricular life; boredom is seldom evident.
