John Lloyd Northup was born 1880/81 in Minnesota, the child of John Burdick Northup and Lucretia J. Hazeltine.

He was married 11/14/1908 in Yamhill Co., OR to Elodia ("Elodie") Louisa Voruz, (born in 1886/87 in Kansas, d. in 1926 after the birth of their youngest child, Frances)
Elodia's father was Louis Voruz, who immigrated from Switzerland and, according to the 1910 census, was a native German speaker, despite the French name.  He was born about 1831, arrived in Illinois in 1849, and married a woman from New York; this unknown person is reputed to have been one-half Native American. Elodie's mother was born in New York, in 1852/53. Her name shows, variously, as Kathrina/Katherine/Catherine Burnam or Burnham. Louis Voruz died before 1920, as did Kathrina. Both show on the 1910 census, though Louis was living in Eastern Oregon with another daughter, and Kathrina was living in Yamhill Co. (Western Oregon) with Herbert and his wife Della.

John Lloyd Northup died 12/19/1942.
