Caleb Northup was born in Herkimer County, New York in 1808, the youngest son of Thomas and Sarah (Gardner) Northup . He married Clarissa A. Burdick on September 15, 1833 in Alfred, New York. Clarissa was born 05 February 1813 in Hopinkton, R.I. She was the daughter of Uriah Burdick and Olive Sutlief. The first 4 children were born in Steuben County, New York, after which they moved to Wisconsin in 1843. They were in Horicon, Wisconsin, in Dodge County until 1856, after which they moved again to Minnesota, apparently township of Wilton near Faribault, section 36 in Rice County. Then in 1866, they moved a final time to Warsaw. Caleb died on Nov. 10, 1871 at the age of 63 in Warsaw,Balaton, MN. Clarissa died on July 25, 1899 at age of 86 at her daughter Susan Davey's home in Balaton. This means she may have lived with her daughter for the last 29 years of her life. Her remains were taken to Warsaw beside her husband.
