Stephen D. Northup was born the son of Stephen (D.) Northup and Sarah Roberts in 1745 in N. Kingston, Rhode Island. He died 5 May, 1836 in Cheshire, Ma. Stephen married Lydia Hall, (born 20 Apr 1757, D. 26 Apr 1794) in Abt 1774.
They had at least eight children. Although it is known that this Stephen was born at North Kingston, R.I., one of his brothers, Emmanuel was born in Preston, Connecticut, and eventually moved to Upstate New York, around West Oneonta in Otsego County around 1800, along with most of his other brothers. The entire family may have moved to Connecticut and later to New York, but Stephen's family was born and raised in Berkshire County, Ma. There is some evidence that this Stephen was really descended from Stephen Northrup and Abigail Perry in Ridgefield, Ct, in which case he was descended from the Milford, Ct. Northrups and not the Kingston Northups. More information on this family will be provided as it is discovered.
